Owwee!

I had a small sore removed from my nose because it wouldn't heal. Yep, it was a skin cancer - but only the kind that spreads locally. So if you cut it out its gone.

Well cut it out they did! First of all I had about 5 fricken shots in my nose to numb it up, then there was a bunch of cutting and tugging until it was out. Then they look at it under the microscope to make sure they got it all. Ok, so they put me back in the room and give me a mirror to look at the wound before closing it. You know, like casually. Well I look in the mirror and see a HUGE fricken hole in the side of my nose. This baby is about the size of the fingernail on your index finger. And deep too!

So, the doc is talking about the options for closing it and the cosmetic outcomes, etc and I'm getting a little sick looking at this hole in my face.

Next comes more shots and then a whole hell of a lot of pulling and tugging and cutting until my nerves are just about fried.

Ok, then he finishes and proudly gives me the mirror again to see the finished product.

OMG!

I have about a 3 cm (inch and a half) wound with stitches running down my nose! I say, "I look like Frankenstein!" and he goes "Well, but notice how your nose has maintained its normal shape and position" like maybe it wasn't supposed to? I go, "Yea, well, nice job.".

"Oh by the way" he says, "This side of your nose will be swollen for a while and you'll have a black eye on this side.". That's just great. I have to work tomorrow.

Now I know you may say, what was I expecting but I've never had anything done on my face before. So I really hadnt given it much thought. I thought a little something that I would wear a bandaid over for a few days and that would be it.

So that's my story and all I really want is a whole bunch of sympathy. If you want to come over and make soup for me tonight I'll leave the door open.

I would LOVE to come and make soup for you, but ya gotta tell me your favorite ;)

Thank higher powers, though, that they were able to remove the cancer.

(*8*)

OH sorry to hear about that! (*8*) (*8*) I'm glad they took care of it! :D
I'm out of soup, but I can help in other ways!! :sex:

I'm in the mood for some mushroom soup. And leave it kind of chunky. :)

Yes, its a good thing that its all gone. The Sun causes these things which is why it was on my nose. He had done a biopsy a few weeks ago and so I knew what it was ahead of time and that the odds were that it could be cured by removing it.

Antdak, I need all SORTS of comfort right now!

I know exactly what you're talking about.

Back when I was in college I was in really bad car accident (neurosurgery, plastic, orthopedic, etc.)

Prior to one of many plastic surgeries I had, the doctor came in and explained what he would be doing the next morning (in surgery) He also said my nose was crooked a little (from being broken in the accident - btw I was in a coma for a while and didn't realize all the initial surgeries)and he could straighten it up if I wanted -- I said sure.

I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT ENOUGHT TO realize that they had to BREAK MY NOSE again to straighten it. #-o

Following the surgery I think I endured the WORST pain I can remember.

Good luck dude.

Wow! I know that must have been one big ouchie!

Thank goodnes it was localized!

My sister had a similar procedure and you can't even tell now, so don't worry. I think you'll still be hot!

Now just sit back and enjoy that soup Chris is going to bring over.

Thank Wossname they found it and sorted it out, I wish you well in your recovery and I really mean that! (*8*)

Thanks guys!

Gentry, that is a pretty horrific story. What a terrible accident that must have been!

Well, if you would have had it done back at the end of last month you COULD have been Frankenstein!! For Halloween that is! Well, glad they got it all... work should be interesting!

Lots of sympathy. I'm sure you'll have a beautiful nose till it's all said & done. Plastic surgeons like to do work that can be admired. How about chicken soup?

Yikes! Well, I'm sorry to hear about your tale of woe. Especially with all this bruising you're going to have to endure at work.

At the very least, you get to use the "Yeah, but you should see how I left the other guy!" line when asked what happened. ;)

Yeah, that's what I need! A good story.

"So I went out to a bar last night and got drunk and while I was stumbling out the door I bumped into this guy and he shoved me and I punched him and he smashed a whiskey bottle into my face and, well, that's how I got this wound on my nose."

Perfect! Now no one will look at me funny at work tomorrow, right?

:( Oh, I can sympathise with the skin cancer thing! I've had a couple burnt off recently on my arms. And my Dad looks like someone has been stubbing cigarettes on his arms and forehead...... People as pale as us shouldn't really live so close to the Equator! Ouch

RR,

I think you should take all of this into prespective....

I "had" a cousin who had a similiar sore that would NOT heal and he went to the dermitologist (sp) and yep it was skin cancer.......

....BUT, it was melanoma!

He died 2 years later!!!

Sorry to be a downer/bummer..........I now remember ALL the times I lay out in the sun and "fried" my skin/body to a crisp.....

Damn, I hope I only have a 3inch hole in the side of my nose!(*8*)

You have my sympathy! Even with basal cells they really are very careful to make sure they have the entire mass. I has a small one removed from the side of my face just below my sideburn! The scar was 1 1/2" long, with 15 stitches! Has your dermatologist mentioned Mederma to you? It can really help to diminish the appearance of the scar. Ask about it!! They now sell it at Wal-Mart, and it's a lot cheaper than it used to be!

Thanks for the advice. I'll look for the Mederma. He did mention Dermabrasion but I'm not excited to hear how much THAT is going to cost me. My little procedure yesterday will run a lot of money. I mean, A LOT!
