I have Microsoft Office 2003 intstalled on both of my computers. About six months ago I found that any emails I tried to send from my laptop automatically went into the Outbox and stayed there. They just will not send. Receiving email is not a problem. I've been on the phone with my ISP to check settings and we can't seem to resolve the problem. I've resorted to using Thunderbird but I don't like it. Ultimately I want to use my Outlook 2003 email

Any suggestions?

See if this helps? Or even this.

Can you describe the specifics of the behavior of going to the outbox in a bit more detail? For instance, if you have saved drafts, you'll see a counter beside the mailbox name and it might show as "unread" (and bolded folder) if you haven't opened your draft since you sent it. Well, when you compose and try to send your message, is there any read/unread status beside it, or message count? Does Outlook think everything is normal *except* for the fact that your message never goes out, or are there visual or behavior indications that Outlook knows there's a problem? I'm just trying to get a little better feel for your unsent outbox messages. :)

Hi trinket

Thanks for the response

To try to be more specific when I compose an email and click "send" it immediately goes to the outbox and stays there. Even when I go to the outbox and open the unsent message it still will not go anywhere when I click on send again

I'm going to go to the laptop in a few minutes and try the troubleshooting tips from Microsoft that you've given me to see if that helps

One thing I didn't mention is when this problem started I tried uninstalling the program and then I reinstalled it. It did not help. The interesting thing is I have no trouble receiving email

M4P:

Is your issue resolved? If no, are you receiving any error message? Sometimes it may be hidden if you have minimized the send/receive status window try opening that to make sure you do not have an error message.

I see you said you worked with your ISP, did they give you specific instructions on how to setup your email with them through outlook 2003? Can you describe what they had you do?

There is an increasing number of ISP's that no longer use the standart smtp port (25) for sending email and use an alternate they choose, also others are disallowing smtp mail relaying (means you must fully authenticate to send email before you can send email).

Are you running security software such as, Anti-virus, Anti-Malware, Anti-Spyware, Firwall etc.. If yes what programs?

Phx.

I spoke to my ISP shortly after. There may be an issue with the email address and they've escalated the issue - I can expect a call back in 24-72 hours

There is an error message. For whatever reason it just doesn't want to send

With any luck the issue lies on their end. But I am curious to know what the error message says.

did you try to press the "receive mails" button, and immediately after that send the mail? many isps have smtp after pop enabled but don't say so on any of their websites ;)
(there is also a setting somewhere in outlook to do this automatically)
