The landscape of Eastern Oregon is not like the Willamette Valley I live in.

The Cascade range grabs the water from the clouds and leaves less to spare for the other side of the state.

Portland is green, lush and wet. And just two hours away, the biome is transformed. This is the site of an abandoned dam on the White River I visited today.

As always, I'm sniffing around the wildflowers.

Course, the waterfall is something, too.

And just down the road after the confluence of this river with the Deschutes river is another waterfall. On the reservation, Native Americans use nets to catch fish from these platforms.

There is something captivating about ruins.

I have yet to see a real waterfall, the spectacular kind. I have seen rapids, water pouring over rocks and cascading down a rocky mountainside, but never a real, wild waterfall. Perhaps one day.

I'm very late to respond to this. But I am DUMBFOUNDED by the notion that someone may have never seen a real, wild waterfall. Without sounding weird, I really did not understand that I enjoyed such a privilege. Thank you for blowing my mind!

When you are in Portland next, please let me take you for a tour. In a few hours, I could show you several. If fit for a little hiking, practically dozens.
