Minister of Silly Walks
I am by no means, the hottest guy you will lay eyes upon.
I could afford to lose probably 20 or 30 pounds, and do intend to so in the coming months. (Being a poor student and gym access both at University and at home will also help this).
But, there is a very fine line.
I've grown accustomed to the actual "hotties" rejecting, sometimes bluntly sometimes more nicely, myself in current state.
However, today proved to be a rather interesting exception.
Someone of whom I've met online, and have chatted with for a few days, finally got the chance to see my face.
Allow me, to set up this story before I go any further.
Said person, is roughly in the same (if not worse) state than I am. He could very well afford to lose the same amount of weight I intend to...
Now, this person, who is basically I'd say on par with how I'm current shaped and defined...
Did not have a very, "postitive" reception upon seeing my face. For those who know, I have a few face pictures in my gallery..You can either agree with said person, or disagree...Doesn't really matter.
Now, I'm the first person to admit that I think my looks are average at best.
But, to be semi-rejected from someone who is in the same boat...Well, that's the knife that cuts the deepest.
According to this verdict, and verdicts past...I'm not worthy enough for someone who's "hot"...Nor am I capable of getting someone who's "average".
Oy, this doesn't bode well for me.
Which leads me to the "meat and potatoes" part of my rant.
I must admit, that I am some what guilty of the entire "He's hot! I want him!" craziness that engulfs most of the gay community these days....But I've also been drawn towards more...unconvential tastes in my times.
What is with this, "He has to be tall, jacked/cut/ripped/musclar/etc, well hung, and so Butch he makes "The Duke" (that's John Wayne to those unfamiliar) look like a woman" attitude?
I don't want to sound like a hypocrite, but yes they're hot and yes everyone wants to sleep with them...But not all us get to.
As a representative for those who don't get to, I'd like to know:
WHY the fuck don't the rest of us just start fucking each other?!
Why do we hold out on this constant idea that our man needs to have these qualities, otherwise they don't even stand a chance!
But perhaps what's truly pathetic...Is that if I follow through on my plans to lose this "excess weight", or "Steve" as I've come to emotionally call it, I would probably reverse this person's opinion on me.
Suddenly, I'd go from let's say a 4...to about a 6 or a 7, perhaps even an 8.
The emphasis we place on this idea of beauty is too fucking much.
If I were a straight man, I'd have no problem getting an attractive woman. Trust me, my brother (who has a good 100 pounds on me) has had scores of attractive g/f's...And so have his crony friends (none of whom are exactly "pick of the litter".)
So, why is there this exception in the straight community that hot & not-so-hot can be teamed up.....Where as in the gay community, it seems only hot & hot go together?
Thankfully, there is one great equalizer in all this: Time.
Eventually, looks will fade people. Both yours and your partners.
If 50 years from now, you can look at that partner and still feel the same amount of love you felt when he was young and "hot", then I applaud you.
If not, then you S-O-L (shit out of luck) because by now, you probably look about the same and again because of gay culture, you won't be able to get that hot young stud in the room.
I'd like to be able to close this rant preaching the importance of personality, but thanks to diseases like Alzheimers...Even personality can fade with age. A sad and tragic fact, but unfortunatly it happens.
So, before you go out to the bars or to you're favourite gay spot...Remember, not all of us are Adonises...But despite this one lacking feature, some of us could rival Einstein, Shakespeare, and other great minds.
Beauty is only a part of the equation, and beauty is not eternal.
