Pakistanis in Britain

Maybe you shouldn't wear your "Kiss Me, I'm Indian" tee shirt so often?

My mate is from Leeds. He is actually Indian.

He works here in the US. He lost his job. It was outsourced to

wait for it

India.

You should have heard his dad laugh.

Paki sounds like al paca the South American donkey?

no i'm not indian.

Paki has been a pejorative term for decades and would be regarded as an insult by most pakistani's.

It is the equivalent of 'nigger' in some parts of the world.

There are very few Pakistanis here so Paki sounds good to me.
Never heard Paki is a bad word.

i think nasty words will change its meaning in the long run.

Give it up! It's been a horrible word for almost 50 years! It's not going to change 'in the long run'!!

(Edit: "Almost 50 years" refers to that, in my living memory, it has been a nasty word.)

Bear in mind that Pakistani's are, for the most part Indian muslims although there are, as we know, a lot of Afghani tribal peoples as well. As I'm sure all know, it and Bangladesh were created from the partition of India at the end of the raj...all because Nehru was determined to have an Islamic state. As far as the division between Pakistan and Afghanistan...it was an arbitrary British border imposed as well.

And for God's sakes Telstra, don't go calling people Paki's if you don't want your head kicked in for insulting them.

^ It might surprise you that a lot of us are very proud of our roots.
I think it's a bit weird for you to feel that this is somehow inferior........

Were you just wanting to be British in food habits, tastes and general lifestyle
or was there more?

Its your call how you feel about yourself, but denigrating the roots shows you're really lost....

Just my .02 though.

I have dark skin because of my Native American heritage, when I lived in L.A. people assumed I was mexican and were always speaking or asking me questions in mexican, I don't speak the language. When I lived in Miami beach, same thing except people assumed I was of some spanish heritage and spoke spanish to me, again...I don't speak that either.

Oh, if telstra was actually being serious of enjoying the use of the word Paki ...

You are invited to visit Bradford and call everyone you see a Paki. It is a very effective suicide method, but has a low efficacy and may just leave you broken and in hospital.

I have used the word numerous times in front of my family though:

'Im not wearing any Paki clothes'

'Im not going to marry a Paki girl or have a Paki wedding'

'Im not eating anymore of your Paki food (my mums cooking often causes vomiting and diahorrea)

'Im not going to every random Pakis fucking three day long arranged marriage'

And, of course:

'I'M NOT A (FUCKING?) PAKI'

*the word Paki is interchangeable with the words Indian and Desi in these examples.

Being treated differently, and being judged and stereotyped based on my skin colour buys you a two hour long bollocking untill I have you in tears and hating yourself. Just be glad that I only use my mouth and not my hands, although I am strongly considering changing that rule.

if the word is rude, i won't use.
I said all along, i didn't know Paki is a rude word and paki sounds nice as a name.
There might be some non Pakistani's in the world somehwere and their name might be Paki.

^ yeah, i have eaten traditional Indian wedding food.
I didn't like it because it was OVER cooked too much. Also it didn't taste nice and too spicy.

The wedding hosts ask me did i like the food and i lied, i just said yes. ;)

I prefer fresh vegetables cook quickly and meat roast or fry or stir fry.

Cum, i think you better calm down and meditate.
Stop swearing, swearing doesn't do you any good what so ever.

if the word is rude, i won't use.
I said all along, i didn't know Paki is a rude word and paki sounds nice as a name.

The problem lies in the fact that you wouldn't accept our word for the fact that it was a rude word, even after likening it to the dreaded 'N' word, and advised you against using it.

If you are told that a word is an insult, then I advise you not to use it until you are able to investigate the validity of the statement.

Am I wrong for focusing on the fact that the lead is the film is a major Hottie!
I don't care where he came from but I know where I'd like him to go.....

Frankly many of the Indian and Pakistanis men I have met in my life have been rather attractive!

And hey cumslave, See Au.org it is the strongest American political group working to ensure a seperation between church and state.
I am with you in your war against religion.

And I think you're very cute!
