PalacePaul Appreciation Thread

Good Thursday morning, Paul! (*8*)

It sounds like you had a nice time by the sea and at that book fair last Saturday. That was a clever book salesman who made you indebted to him. Now you feel obliged to return, and no doubt buy more books.

I hope your organ playing and preparations for Holy Week are going well.

Hi Paul!

I'm going to an organ concert Saturday, but it's rather sad. The Wanamaker Organ is in a downtown Philadelphia department store. It was John Wanamaker for many years, but has been a Macy's for a while. The store is closing Sunday. There are organists scheduled all day with a closing set at 5 PM.

I got a late start and heard everything after 4 PM. I liked Dylan Shaw's gentle-seeming touch with the organ. He's a talent. Peter Richard Conte knows and loves that organ, and it's a delight to hear him play. And who would have thought a fleugelhorn would be such a nice complement?

The next-to-last number was the one that blew me away.

There was quite a large crowd and a real cross-section of Philadelphia. A few kids, well-behaved but their wise parents didn't stay for the whole concert. The Grand Court was cleared of merchandise (sad) but filled with folding chairs (all filled). I was glad I went. And I'm glad the Wanamaker Organ will be preserved on site by the building's new owners.

The store closes tomorrow, but it's been picked pretty clean. There are some rugs and store fixtures left.

What an experience to be there in person!
I only watched the last part. It looked like this Peter Conte was the star of the show. His command of such a gigantic instrument was impressive. Of the pieces I heard I liked the Carillon de Westminster the most.

My own concert in an ugly town near Sabadell was ok, too :ROFLMAO:

Good Thursday afternoon, Paul! (*8*)

I hope you're doing well, and that your organ playing is working out well with you. I'm sure that right now you're busy with preparations for Holy Week. Hope that is going well.

Good evening.
Yes, this is the busy season. We are mostly ready for the Holy Week.
I'm playing a concert at the cathedral on Sunday afternoon
And more important: on Friday evening a young duo of former students are playing one of my pieces in another concert. One that I've never heard, actually. I'm very excited!!

Hola Paul , espero tambien hayas pasado un buen finde y que tu semana este fluyendo bien , es increible que falte tan poco tiempo para Semana Santa
Cuidate amigo (UU)

Great news! I hope the music is lovely.

The organist at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ gave a nice little recital of pop songs before the Devils hockey game last night. Some arenas do use their live musicians more than others.

Good Saturday afternoon, Paul! (*8*)

I'm sure your musician and organ playing friends over in Spain will appreciate learning about the Wanamaker organ. Unfortunately, Florida doesn't seem to have too many of these exceptional features.

BTW, speaking of organs, I'm sure you have plenty of playing ahead of you, with Holy Week and Easter coming up.

Good evening Frankie, Thad, RM and John.
This is the busiest week for me
And today I made the traditional Holy Week sweets (brunyols) with my dad. They came out perfect :)

Good Saturday afternoon, Paul! (*8*)

I suspect that right now, you're very busy, getting ready for some organ playing at tomorrow's Easter masses, and no doubt you've had to play for Good Friday and Maundy Thursday as well. It's good that the Holy Week brunyols turned out well.
