Palin Can't Name More Than One Supreme Court Case

Today, the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz reported on potentially embarrassing clips of Sarah Palin being interviewed by Katie Couric that haven't yet been aired. The Politico has more information on one in particular:

Of concern to McCain's campaign, however, is a remaining and still-undisclosed clip from Palin's interview with Couric last week that has the political world buzzing.


The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions.

After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.

There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.

It seems to be a general consensus among the TV news pundits (except Fox Noise) that McCain chose her in a moment of vindication. (a senior moment) He wanted Lieberman and got an emphatic "NO" from the RNC, then collaborated with a few cronies to stage her. She has proven to be as dumb as a box of rocks and even far right conservative powers-to-be are calling for her to excuse herself or for McCain to have her withdrawn. He won't do that, of course, but he will lose anyway so it's almost a moot point. I almost feel sorry for Palin. She was nothing but a pawn in a reckless and stupid "McCain game" that is way over her head. The flailings and flip-flops of McCain in the last two weeks are testimony to his sheer desperation and his poll numbers are categorically on a downward spiral. She can always go back to Alaska, if they still want her.

I dont believe there are any rules regulating that besides tradition....as it stands, the only viable option there exists for McCain to get a new person on the McCain ticket is for Palin to say she is dropping out of the race because her family (i.e. Pregnant daughter, sick husband, senile grandma, whatever) needs her. Kinda like whats his face did...before the whole infidelity schpeel...

Winner or loser won't be decided by dumbness or smartness, but by charisma. Until this video I feared Palin could beat Biden with her extra-dumb hidden aces, but now I believe Biden may have good chances to take over during that clash of the titans on Thursday

The video you've posted is full of ACTUAL gaffes. Ask Biden how many Supreme court cases he can name. Ask Biden about where countries are on the map. Ask Biden about foreign leaders. You know, questions that actually matter. I promise you he'll murder Sarah Palin, and the debate will prove that.

My point is, it seems like a double-standard here, is the mission to elect people that are smarter than us? What good is electing someone who can name court cases if we can't name them and don't know what they're about?

Theoretically they could be overturning cases that would affect us negatively but we'll trust them cuz they....ya know...know stuff....and stuff.

It seems like some Americans think democracy means "Vote for someone else to do all the thinking."

Yeah, but as stated elsewhere, if the old geezer gets elected and croaks in office, she'll be in charge of appointing more justices to a court with whom she has absolutely no familiarity. She'll probably appoint the pie judge from the Wassilla County Fair.

Huh? I can name plenty of court cases, explain their context, the decisions, and the impact they've had on the law and government. This is ninth grade civics. But that's beside the point. If I'm a principal trying to hire teachers at my school, there's no way I'm going to know the ins and outs of every topic that's taught there. But I would want to make sure to put people in place who are experts in the field, since that's their job.

How is she going to be Vice President when she doesn't even know simple separation of powers and checks and balances? People working at Wal-Mart, the hardware store, and cubicles across the U.S. get paid to know what they're doing in their own jobs. So I want an elected official who knows what the hell they're doing in theirs.

This women barely seems to know enough about national politics to indicate she even reads the Sunday paper.

Do you think that, as one who has that knowledge, you represent the standard or the exception?

I have no idea, but as I stated later in my post, it doesn't make a difference. It isn't the average American's job to know the ins and outs of the government. It is the job of the President and Vice President since that's the job they get paid to do.

But that's not what matters. If she can memorize a few catchy-phrases and talk-points, she'll win her audience over the same way Obama won over lots of support by using the "change" slogan though he's a FAR cry from "change."

It may not be what matters to other people, but it definitely matters to me.
