Abrams Wooing Cruise For Trek XI?

IGN Movies reported that J.J. Abrams, who is directing the next Star Trek film, would like to bring on his Mission: Impossible III star Tom Cruise for a cameo appearance as Capt. Christopher Pike, according to a "trusted source."

Pike was the first captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise and Spock's (Leonard Nimoy) commanding officer prior to Capt. Kirk (William Shatner), which would fit with the reported flashback storyline in the upcoming film. The character was played by Jeffrey Hunter in the original 1966 Star Trek TV pilot, "The Cage," which was later edited into the two-part episode, "The Menagerie."

There have been previous reports of Cruise's involvement in the project, which were denied by his spokesman, Arnold Robinson, last fall. At the time, it was thought that Cruise's public falling-out with Paramount head Sumner Redstone, who controls the rights to the Trek franchise, would prevent him from working with the studio again in the near future. But tensions between the two have cooled off lately, and, according to IGN's source, the cameo role would be seen as a favor to Abrams and not to Paramount.

I just read that Cruise story as well...unbelievable. I would be pretty shocked if Tom Cruise did this, but I wouldn't be opposed if it was just a cameo.

I'm pretty happy with them making any Trek movie so long as its not getting into Final Frontier/Insurrection crappiness. If they are in fact making the prequel/restart to TOS, I am happy with the casting of the guy who plays Sylar on Heroes as Spock. I like the rumour I heard somewhere online that they are hoping Gary Sinese will play Bones.
I'd still prefer a Voyager movie though but then again, I have an unhealthy obsession with Kathryn Janeway

TOO BAD WE WON'T SEE THIS IN THE NEXT STAR TREK MOVIE

Our friends over at Star Trek: New Voyages dropped me a note that they wrapped up shooting of their two-part special "Blood and Fire" episode. In case you've forgotten, this is the episode written by Star Trek alum David Gerrold which introduces Kirk's gay nephew Peter Kirk (Bobby Rice) who falls in love with fellow crew member Lt. Alex Freeman (Evan Fowler). And by fall in love, I don't mean one of those lame "allegories" that the other official Star Trek engaged in with genderless aliens or body-swapping Trills. These two fellas fall in love, and as proof the folks at New Voyager provided us with a couple of exclusive pics for your perusal.

As Captain Picard would say, "Make it so!"

Now if only the official Star Trek could go where someone else has now gone before them. BTW, if this isn't enough to get you to download the latest episode (not released yet; we'll keep you posted), Denise Crosby, who played Tasha Yar on the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, guest-stars in this new episode. Here, in another exclusive photo from New Voyages, is Denise on the bridge of the Enterprise playing Tasha Yar's grandmother.

Kudos to New Voyages for bringing this 24th century franchise into the 21st century (along with Star Trek: Hidden Frontier another fansite creating original content with gay characters).

Link.

bobby rice plays a dealing-with-his-sexuality bajoran named ro nevin on hidden frontier. he has an on/off relationship in with engineer corey aster.

hidden frontier just finished it's 7th and last season, but the hidden frontier folks are going to put out two fan series. one is called the helena chronicles. the other is called odyssey and it stars bobby rice as his ro nevin character.

Enough Star Trek movies already. Its a dead series that died with the mediocre series 'Enterprise' and the dreadful sequels 'Insurrection' and 'Nemesis.'

I really don't know why this series is still so popular.

And WHY OH WHY are they remaking the original series into a big budget action movie? JJ Abrams is just making it for himself because he can.
It'll be a huge flop because he doesn't realize he's doing something really stupid. The Trekkies will hate it because its sacriledge to them, and anyone who isn't a Trekkie will ignore it. Bombs away.
