  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

pardon me but, who added a fucking Q to LGBT?

The latest version I heard was QUILTBAG (at least it's easy to say) for: Queer/Questioning, Undecided, Intersex, Lesbian, Trans, Bisexual, Asexual, Gay.

Hey! I just realized there's no "p" for the poly folks. How could we be so exclusive? For shame.

tbh, I've never really understood why the "T" got added somewhere along the line.

I wouldn't consider being transgender/transsexual as a sexual orientation.
Very true that it's not a sexual orientation, but I think there's more than enough reason to keep it in the acronym because of the REAL fact that many people on the "outside" (as well as even a considerable number of LGB people, though not a majority) think that it IS a form of sexual orientation. Furthermore, "T"s encounter, if anything, even more discrimination and bad treatment (of the face-to-face type) than the remaining LGB portion.

At some point it starts making more sense to talk about "sexual minorities" which covers all of that. And also suggests why gay and trans people have a reason to work together.

Sexual minorities is an oft used term, but it evokes too much of an emphasis on sex and not the humanity LGBT etc. individuals.

That's why we say gay and not homosexual. Even the term same-sex marriage is falling out of favor.

Good point. I've been a big fan of "equal marriage" even over "gay marriage" for similar reasons.

I personally prefer "S" for "Suspect" than "Q" for "Questioning" lol
