I am interested as to how people that frequent JUB categorize themselves politically

I am posting this poll in Hot topics because it seems to be the forum that everyone travels through on JUb as they go to their favorite corner, so to speak, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave it in hot topics until it gets old and goes to the polls forum graveyard

Thanks

also, if you would state your most important reason for your party afiliation , I would be greatful

I know this can easily become a free for all, so do me a favor and answer my post without responding directly to the other people who answer as well.

thanks again !!

getting votes, but no posts...

i have always wondered if being gay automatically makes you more prone to being democrat .... if having conservative parents leads you to a stronger link to the republicans...

i have never seen a body of the LGBT community answer this question directly though

i have done some research and i cant find any statistics on our communities party affiliation

people just assume that we are liberal politically, but no one seems to know exactly how to test their theories.

I said "liberal democrat", but in some ways I'm a socialist. I can't understand why a country as rich as the USA won't provide health care for all who need it and won't guarantee higher education for all who are qualified and desire it. I'm for laws that strengthen the middle class and reduce both the upper and lower classes.

I'm a liberal Democrat. My parents are, even though they are not anywhere near as political as I am. They believe, as do I, in social justice and equality.

I'm a Democrat by registration, though not really in practice.I am definitely neither a liberal Democrat nor really conservative Republican.I'd say moderate Republican at heart, though if the right continues to dominate,I'd hope for a third party that can coalesce around the center and force one of the major parties at least to govern for the country and not their bases. If the Democratic party had a strong moderate wing again,I could vote for and support much of their pragmatic progressive candidates and stances. It is abortion, and the near universality of the Democrat's embrace of "a woman's right to choose" that keeps me cool and distant towards embracing them, though.

In the confines of the US political scene I am a liberal democrat. That was pretty much how I was raised and how I still feel to my core about things of governing. But as ajax stated in any other place I would probably be more a socialist or even a communist. I believe that I am no more deserving than anyone else and that no one is more deserving than me. I am more than happy to help others out and I just hope that they are there when I need. I am going to try to remember a famous quote, can't remember who said it (possibly Marx), but it goes something like...from those who can to those who need. When I can give i do, when I get to the point where I need, I hope i can find it.

After hitting the send button I realized that I think of communism and socialism more on the cultural and economical positives and not the working political thought; which is probably why I vote as a liberal democrat.

Yes, a Democrat can be conservative. The Republicans highest-in-power in their party are NOT entirely conservative. Certainly not conservative on economic issues, nor on CONSERVATION (comes from the same root word) of resources and the health of our planet.

Somebody who is truly LIBERAL will amost certainly have some conservative aspects in their thinking. Look up the definition; it means being open-minded to all points of view and making one's own evaluations. I label myself as "quite far left," but that includes a number of conservative opinions as well.

Between the choices I voted "liberal Democrat" though Independent ("GREEN") fits me more, but I didn't vote for that because "independent" can mean anything from extreme right to extreme left, and therefore doesn't really say much.

I chose "Leftist Democrat" because I'm a registered Democrat, but my political identity is more complex. I'm a leftist (way left of the current Democratic party) with a socialist bent and I don't confine myself to voting by party. I'll admit to voting for a Republican sheriff because I thought she'd do a better job than the Democratic candidate.

If you asked me 15 years ago I'd have said I was a moderate republican. The Bush'es terms in office have turned me into a full liberal democrat. As I have grown and matured, my views have changed on almost every fundemental item.

](*,) ](*,)

Liberal to moderate Democrate - who sometimes will go independent if there is a good one around.

There are over 300.000.000 people in this country now - surely there must be someone amongst them who could provide us with the intelligent and insightful and futuristic leadership we need.

How do we go about finding this person - male or female - regardless of sexual preference?

Please enough alread of this - will this person please step forward.

slight political commentary here by the local village idiot, who is not a "happy camper" these days.

I am what Rush Limbaugh would say I am, and that is a Lib. The older I get the more to the left I find myself (my mother is the same way). My late father grew more bitter as he aged and he gradually shifted to the right. Neither of them influenced my political orientation. Having said all ot that though, two of my favorite major politicians were Barry Goldwater and Richard Nixon. The Republican party went down hill ever since Reagan and is now this deviant and bizzare party.

Add Eisenhower to the list; you may not be old enough to remember much about him. Now it's true that the McCarthy/"Red Scare" happened under his watch (and that was pretty damned evil), but generally he was excellent both on domestic and foreign policy. The Republican Party platform used to be much easier to handle than what it turned into after the Neo-Cons got ahold of it and wrecked it.

I'm a Green Party member. I was raised to be a California Republican, often times called a Sagebrush Republican. They believe that taxes should be kept to a minimum, government waste should be eliminated, and the government should stay out of the personal lives of people. None of those things represent the Republicans of today.

I started out as a registered Republican and then I switched to an Independent the year Ross Perot came out of the woodwork. A week later, I realized what a nut he was and I switched to the Green Party, because it represented my personal values better than any of the other parties. I realize that the Green Party is a little idealistic and sometimes unrealistic. But I think that it is good to have a party push for things that would be ideal while we have other parties push for selfishness. I think that it helps balance things better. I just with that the Green Party had a little power and that it would use it properly, which they have not, when they do have it. I would rather be on the side of working towards ideals, protecting the environment and the health of people, fairness and moving humanity towards a positive direction than on the side of selfishness and greed.
