I voted Moderate Democrat.

I'm an active member of the Texas Democratic Party because, in my view/opinion, the decisions that are made within the party come about Democratically.

In other words, there isn't some word from national level that dictates what "the grass roots" are going to get behind. At a grass roots level we fight it out (sometimes literally), as to the direction that we're going in as a party. The topics and issues are debated (sometimes very heatedly), and once the majority has spoken, that's it; move on to the next topic.

I feel like I'm a part of something that's greater than myself, and as a precinct chair, my only job is to represent those registered Democrats in my precent...regardless of whether or not I agree with how "liberal/conservative" they are.

I voted moderate democrat, because I don't see myself as a "wild-eye liberal." However, since the country has gone so far to the right, it's hard to even know what a moderate sounds like, much less what he stands for. ;)

I am not a US citizen but I would catagorise myself as a liberal democrat on social issues, but a liberal freemarketer / free trader on economic issues and I have some serious concerns about the protectionist direction the Democrats want to take with the economy.

smitho
too bad you have to have labels i.e. demo/rep/grn etc.
but yr premise is correct by my lowly standards..unfortuntly taught by the village idiot eM.

I posted and voted myself as moderate Republican. I feel that there are many issues that go into determining one's political affiliation besides some of the limited topics that get discussed on many of these JUB threads.

I would tend to be more economically conservative and socially moderate for example.

Andreus. You might be interested and probably already know that I have a similar thread to this going in the poll section that I started earlier this year. I had more options than this thread does. For example I divided both the Democrats and Republicans into three different wings, which your poll question doesn't.

I am all for well thought out and reasonable political discussions.

thanks for the latest posts!!

the results arent really suprising i guess, but i wanted to see the latest ;)

thanks for all the input so far, guys !!!

Oddly,

I'm a moderate liberal. No...really, I'm more center.

I support better funding for the military, I'm pro-life, I think everyone should have a gun (well hidden and fully trained), and I'm not really a huge fan of multicultralism (I'm even less supportive of racism).

But I also fight for human rights, support gay marriage, social welfare and programs aimed at creating greater equality in this world, and I'm strongly for honoring my ancestor's promises to the First Nations people of this earth (and I'm all for my other ancestors getting back what's ours).

So I have no idea what that makes me.

I think the goverment should stay out of the market, out of the church, out of the bedroom, but all over the schools, the hospitals, the welfare office, and should be allowed to wear leather chaps whenever they feel like it.

I put moderate republican. If the republican party was run on the ideals it was founded on and not on campaign checks (and the Democrats ran the same way) my views would fall more in line with the republicans. I'm by no means conservative, though, so that's why I went with Moderate.

Economically republican and socially democratic?

I'm Canadian, so...

I vote Liberal federally. I find that, despite their failings, the Liberals are the best party to represent Canada as a whole, while still pursuing a moderately left-leaning social agenda. The NDP have some good ideas socially, but they don't have a chance of getting in, since out antiquated Single Member Plurality electoral system has the fault of punishing small parties with widespread (geographically) support.

Thank GOD my Province is having an electoral reform referendum!

I'd classify myself now as a Liberal Democrat but I've evolved. Funny, I grew up in the conservative south with very liberal parents. My family was always described by the likes of "nuts" and "flakes". My parents didn't care. They wore it as a badge of honor.

Thank goodness we migrated up north to Mass. where I got my secondary education and my politics evolved. I'm very proud to be a liberal.

still getting votes and posts!!

thanks guys

If the option were there, I'd put that I was a moderate Republocrat. Right now I am disgusted with both parties; I am for smaller and more efficient government but I want to see a social net provided for those that can not make it in life. I see the Republicans totally blew it in their years of power and became free spending, graft taking, anything but. I am hoping that in the Democrats return to power they will embrace balanced budgeting, strong military and defense, but preservation of the social safety net. I am not for redistribution of wealth concepts but do believe that those that can pay should pay to support those that are least able.

Last year I apparently left the "middle class" for the next level up; what a shock when you get a tax bill in the five digits after you've paid in all year! If I thought the money went for uses I supported I would have had fewer problems; when I see the waste and abuse it makes me ill.

I'd call myself a moderate Republican, except so many in the GOP are so damn frickin' anti-gay and so zealously so, I just can't go there.

Not a fan of some of the liberal leanings of the Democrats, but ultimately, I'll take tolerance over intolerance any day.

W, Coulter, Limbaugh and their ilk pretty well ended any GOP left in me. I still admire some of the thinking of Barry Goldwater though, on things like small government, balanced budget, etc.

in honor of Speaker Pelosi i thought we could revisit this and see if anyone else wants to have a say....

Well you see, I chose being socialist because among the political leanings, it is the most compassionate for mankind and the "average joe". I would hate myself for being a sexy neocon, because I really can't stand that part of the political spectrum.

I'm a Green Party member. I was raised to be a California Republican, often times called a Sagebrush Republican. They believe that taxes should be kept to a minimum, government waste should be eliminated, and the government should stay out of the personal lives of people. None of those things represent the Republicans of today.

I started out as a registered Republican and then I switched to an Independent the year Ross Perot came out of the woodwork. A week later, I realized what a nut he was and I switched to the Green Party, because it represented my personal values better than any of the other parties. I realize that the Green Party is a little idealistic and sometimes unrealistic. But I think that it is good to have a party push for things that would be ideal while we have other parties push for selfishness. I think that it helps balance things better. I just with that the Green Party had a little power and that it would use it properly, which they have not, when they do have it. I would rather be on the side of working towards ideals, protecting the environment and the health of people, fairness and moving humanity towards a positive direction than on the side of selfishness and greed.
I changed to NPP, No Party Preference, to be able to vote for Bernie in the 2016 Democratic Primary and decided it fits me better, so I'm keeping it at that.

As soon as I was old enough to vote, my Dad walked me to a temporary GOP office to register. The office was right next door to one of his offices. The form already had Republican checked, and at the time I had no idea what party I wanted to be in. But voting was important to my Dad. I have voted ever since.
