Pat Grimshaw's Off-Topic/Derail Posts

I have no idea. Maybe the two that I knew in Toronto were rebels. They actually were also friends so it explains why there may have been some resonance of opinion.

I know that one of them also liked bacon.....so we're not talking orthodox here by any stretch.

How is it that you have two such friends when my social network of Jews is in the thousands and I've never gotten such a response?

There have been a couple of Jews here at JUB that were uncut. One was born in Poland and I don't remember about the other.

I also had the privilege of getting to know a Holocaust survivor from Germany. He was a fascinating and intelligent man and so articulate. He was 90 when I met him. One day he said he had a doctor's appointment that afternoon because he was having a problem with his foreskin. I asked him was a good Jewish boy was doing with a foreskin and he said it was not uncommon among European Jews that were cultural Jews or those who lived in areas particularly unfriendly to Jews. I wish I could have known him longer.

:( I need to consult my Google Maps. One creature lived at Santa Bernardino WEST of Hollywood and the other creature lived at San Barbara which is EAST of Hollywood.

I wonder if their paths met? What would they have said to each other as each of them pursued their own Path to Enlightenment?

The fact that you reside in a country where it's totally normalized and Rareboy resides in a country where it isn't could easily explain it.

It is generally true.....and of course, it has enjoyed a very high rate of acceptance and preference in western countries over the last century. I do have two Jewish friends though who have said that they think they have been cheated by having their dickskin chopped off without asking them.

As a genetic Presbyterian, I certainly never gave my own missing foreskin much thought until I was well into adulthood. I even get that it probably originated as the result of hereditary preponderance of phimosis and morphed into a tribal body mod mark of distinction.

Now, my own position is that it should be a decision that every male should make for himself after the age of majority...a pact that each man can make with his God, his tribe or with cosmetic surgeons.

I love both circumcised and uncut...so I have no preference.

Do you think your "Jewish" friends would feel less cheated if they kept chopped off foreskins as a souvenir?

No.

Their position was that having known guys that were intact, they wondered if the removal of the foreskin had reduced the sensitivity and sensation that a foreskin seems to offer. One was in medicine and one in biology and both felt that if evolution had given males this protection for the head of the penis, that a 3500 year tradition of lopping it off might really have no value for most males.

But both of them thought, though that it was something that should be an adult choice and not a routine procedure on infants. And this went for both cultural and medical reasons....the logic being that if an adult male is circumcised for tribal reasons, the meaning of it is much greater when you have a full awareness of the covenant...and if for medical reasons, they are able to discuss with the doctor the extent of removal and the risks involved in order to make an informed choice.

So keeping a chunk of desiccated tissue as a souvenir really wouldn't be of interest to either of them.

And I have to say....they were the only two Jewish guys that I've ever discussed circumcision with. And as I said, they also knew one another well, so it wasn't like there were two random acquaintances where this subject came up at different times.

Re: Re: We're not into the pride scene anymore...

Neither one of us want to go to pride this year. Instead, we're taking a road trip in a random direction....

Fair enough. But be thankful you don't live in Shanghai or Pyong Yang or Istanbul. They were using rubber bullets in Istanbul yesterday.

A dear friend of mine will be in Turkey for the next two years, so I will be paying more attention to events in the country.

I won't be paying any more worry, though, than I do about their visits to the local mall, or cinema.

Tell him to avoid the airport.

It's the third most popular airport in Europe so it's a magnet for those who want to express their faith with a bomb belt

^ But those threats are SO unpredictable.

Did you see yesterday's clip where the killers were roaming through the airport?

One of the many security guards shot one of the killers. The killer dropped to the floor and his gun slipped out of his hand and skidded across the polished floor.

And then the wounded killer, lying prone on the floor, leans over and detonates the bomb-belt strapped around his waist.

Certainly the Jewish community frays at the edges. It is impossible to estimate the number of us in the world. The conservative number is around 14 million. I suspect that there are Jews of varying degrees of identity or heritage around four times that number. One merely needs a direct female line ancestor.

Naturally, being people, Jews migrate away from cultural centers, intermarry, and bear children of mixed heritage whom associate with varying degrees. Such children may also not go through with Brit Milah if the Jewish parent no longer associates with the community or the non Jewish spouse objects. I could see how someone born in such a situation could later object as well, though the likelihood of that person continuing the Jewish heritage in subsequent generations is pretty slim. Thus, one commonly hears about individuals having a Jewish grandparent, which if through the maternal line that person would technically be Jewish, but is not among Klal Yisrael as I understands it. Accordingly, criticism from such a person, while valid, I would not consider to be a voice from the Jewish community.

From the camera's point of view it appeared he wasn't able to take any lives, unlike the other two. Hopefully his failure will be felt amongst the ranks of his ilk.

Bonus: watching the officer run away.

Re: 73 people killed in a Truck attack: FRANCE

The killer Mohamed Bouhlel came from the town of Sousse in Tunisia where 38 (mostly British holidaymakers) were mercilessly gunned down on the beach.

Twenty-one (mostly European tourists) were massacred inside the museum in Tunisia's capital city 15 months ago.

All three massacres were committed on innocent people without warning.

Who will apologise and make excuses for these ever-increasing massacres?

^There are those here who argue that circumcision of the penis is also mutilation, carried out on a grand scale in the United States.

But they argue wrong. Just ask the tens of millions of satisfied men.

You're welcome Grimshaw.

At least this will keep your toxic racist shit quarantined.

I don't know about other threads, but what exactly did he say that was racist?

Being opposed to a backwards, homophobic, mysogynistic and, yes, racist religion is not being racist.
