Pat Quinn loses 25k jobs in July after massive tax increases

Scott Walker may have not had the best month, but his July was no where near as catastrophic as Democrat Pat Quinn, Governor of Illionois. Obama's home state lost the most jobs of any other state in the country. This all comes after HUGE tax increases. Even with all of this information, the far-left will still continue banging the 'raise taxes' drum.

The passage of a 67% income tax hike in January 2011, as well as higher corporate taxes, has coincided with a downturn in state employment. Since the enactment of this massive tax increase, Illinois has lost 89,000 jobs.

The report also said Illinois’s unemployment rate climbed to 9.5 percent. This marks the third consecutive month of increases in the unemployment rate.

I'd think that you'd be going for the bigger number instead of some random figure like 25k.

How do you square that?

And since the Illinois General Assembly is controlled by Democrats in both houses, isn't the purpose of this thread to slam Democrats Nationwide even though the policies and issues in Illinois (while not effecting the whole of the country) are different than if the Democrats in Washington did the same thing?

(Those companies couldn't just shift jobs to another "country" could they?)

What are the differences between or similarities between the Democrats in Washington, compared to Democrats controlling the Assembly and the Governor's Mansion in Illinois?

Care to compare and contrast?

As the Illinois Policy Institute notes, the state lost more jobs in July than any other state in the nation, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data. After losing 7,200 nonfarm payroll jobs in June, Illinois lost 24,900 more in July

Who are the people that had the tax increases imposed on them? Was it the same people who seem to bear the burden of all the tax increases? The rich and the corporations need to be taxed their fair share. It's absurd what they get away with, while the middle class and poor usually bear the burden.

And the "massive" 67% tax increase was to raise the income tax from 3% to 5%. Some of us pay 10% in NJ, Justapixel. I'd kill to get my taxes cut to 5%!

The state budget deficit was projected to hit $15 billion in the coming year, endangering government's ability to pay employees, provide money it owes to schools and local governments and reimburse the businesses and charities that work for the state. Quinn's office estimates the tax increase will generate about $6.8 billion a year, enough to balance the annual budget and begin chipping away at the state's backlog of about $8.5 billion in unpaid bills.

I'd be interested to know how far Illinois has come to paying off their debt and balancing their budget.

The Governor promised this prior to get elected, and said that it would be temporary.

Guess what happens when the State of Illinois is out of debt, and the tax increases are "cut" back to what they were before the budget shortfall?

That was the important question, and I'm glad it got answered.

The people in the Illinois legislature failed to pay attention to what the Democrats in D.C. have been saying all along: don't raise taxes on the little guy, especially not in a recession. So the problem isn't the massive tax increase, but the aim: they should have aimed at the people who use their extra tax money to build factories overseas and steal American jobs. The tax increase itself was plainly needed; as Centex pointed out, getting that state debt paid off will contribute to posterity. But keeping money in the hands of the little guy -- citizen or business -- is even more important to prosperity.

It would be ridiculous to claim that all the jobs lost were due to the tax increases, but just as ridiculous to claim that none was.
