Hey Guys,

I am not sure if any of you remember but about 6 to 8 weeks ago I had a panic attack and it came and went quickly and all seemed fine afterwards so I thought it was a one time thing.

Anyhow about 2 weeks ago I started feeling nervous and anxious for no reason, my feet and my hands seemed to sweat alot and I had a strange feeling of I had to just get out. I felt like I was loosing my mind and all control and had no clue as to why I was feeling this way and reacting the way I was.

Anyhow I went to see my family doctor immediately as the symptons seemed to get worse and last off and on throughout the day.

The doctor prescribed me on 12.5 mg Paxil Cr and I took my first pill on Friday the 9th and tomorrow I am suppose to up the dose to 25 mg.

Now my question is for those of you on Paxil , how long did it take for you to start to feel better? Or is there a different medication that you feel worked better for you?

Thanks guys.

was on paxil for awhile and it made me really flat feeling....no peaks , valleys , no reall emotions and no drive at all. then after a year he decided to switch me to effexor and i feel like my old self...including having my sex drive back, but no panics which is great...

Thanks Versa I will kep this in mind and see how Paxil works for me. Unfortunately I think its too early for me to know if its working or not as its only been a week since I started taking it. Right now my main concern is getting rid of the nervousness, anxiety and feeling better.

I am on paxil and have been for 2 years. It takes medicine about 1 week to get completely in your system. I take 20 mg and feel fine. The CR should release all day. I was taking CR 12.5 but decided to go with just 20 paxil. Same strength my doctor said.

If you are still having anxiety after a month, talk to your doctor and try something else. Not all medicines work the same on everybody. You will know when the medicine is right for you.

Take care.

Thanks Top for the info. Today it has been a week and I still really dont feel a difference yet but hopefully it works for me.

Hey Canada thanks mate.... Yeah it does suck big time and I just keep trying to tell myself all is fine and it will pass. this is only day 10 on the meds and I know I have to give it a few more days or even a couple more weeks before it really kicks in.

Hi, HighParkLover. Besides the link up above posted by mustangman, here is another post. Its a bit older. http://justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96990 .

I used Paxil for about 4 years. It did not seem to work at all at first. Then I slowly got very numb. I did not care about anything. It took almost getting fired for me to realize it. I also gained a lot of weight and started to drink alot. You can read my post in the thread above as well. I’ve been off it for 2 or 3 years already.

I took Paxil for other reasons than Panic attacks. However, I can feel your pain on panic attacks. I did not believe in them. But I just started having them at night. About 7 months ago they started. I had 4 now. I think they are panic attacks anyway. I wake up, twice it happened after a dream about somthing like my parents passing away, something bad at work, or something bad in general and I cant breath, I basically go mental. However, twice I just wake up and am calm. I move to adjust myself to go back to sleep and bang. I am in total panic. I hyperventilate, I feel trapped. Its just horrible. I find if I get up, and go to the bathroom or walk and breath some I calm down.

So. If Paxil works to stop your panic attacks that’s great and I would recommend taking it. However, ask you doctor how long you should be on it. I for one don’t want to go back on Paxil since I experienced it before or anything similar and am going to try to do other things to beat my recent panic attacks first. So fellow JUB members if you can give advice for panic attacks without taking Paxil or something similar let us know.

I'm a pharmacist and I get this question pretty frequently.

Paxil belongs to a family of drugs called SSRIs. It is related to Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Lexapro, and others. The average time to see desired effects is about 4 weeks for most people. But, as has been pointed out, it varies from person to person.

Paxil would not be my first choice for anyone as is causes the most sedation, lethargy, weight gain, and sexual side effects. IMO, Paxil CR offers no significant advantage over plain Paxil - since Paxil is already dosed once daily anyway. The side effect profile of CR is not notably better either, despite what the mfg tells doctors to tell you. CR is also significantly more expensive. $$$

If you are feeling "flat" or lethargic, sleepy, have noticed weight gain, or other troublesome side effects, I would recommend trying either Celexa or Effexor.

Celexa is the "cleanest" in terms of overall side effect profile - likely to have the least negative impact on how you feel. Effexor, OTOH, has the least chance of causing sexual side effects (decreased libido) while at the same time increasing, to some extent, your heart rate, blood pressure, and for some insomnia.

Again, everyone reacts somewhat differently to different drugs. However, my experience has been that the best balance of treatment success and side effect minimization occurs with Celexa and Effexor.

Hope this helps....

i ben on paxil for 5yrs and at first it did have some effect on my sex life but in last 3yrs it has gone back to whout it was and it has help with the panic attacks so i hope thay work for you if not hope you get whout works for you .

Thanks everyone for your opinions and advice. I am taking what you all say seriously.

I have been feeling a little better these past few days but still have sweaty hands and feet which I find more irritating now than anything. I am on day 11 of taking Paxil and I do have a follow up with my doctor on March 1st.

I will keep you all posted.

I have heard alot of good things about Lexapro so I will bring that to my doctors attention as well.

Again JUB members thanks so much, it feels great to be able to talk about this without feeling strange.

I suffered from panic disorder for years, and I was initially prescribed Tofranil (generic name: imipramine). It worked pretty well, as my attacks became minimal and eventually nonexistant. After awhile I decided to go off the medication, and I was fine for a couple years, then the attacks resurfaced (along with depression). I then went on Paxil and I hated it. My attacks and depression remained, but I my sex drive nosedived and it was damn near impossible for me to reach orgasm when I did have a sex drive. Different effects for different people, though. Whatever you do, never stop Paxil cold turkey. I did and my body felt CRAZY. Let your doctor know if you want to stop taking it.

How ironic. Now that I have started to ween myself off paxil, I am also having the same symptoms. I sometimes feel that I am not in control of my self. like I am suffocating and I have no control. It is like data is being erased from my hard drive. I hop these go away after I am off this crap!

Mustang I am sorry to hear of the symptoms you are having and hope they go away. Please keep us all posted.

It is unreal how much that a anxiety or panic attack can control our lives.

Well just a quick update guys.... I think the medication is starting to kick in and work? I have been feeling much more calmer lately and have not had that feeling of I just have to get out. I have an appointment with my doctor on the 1st but I think this medication may finally be helping me :) As well today was the first time I was able to stay hard and have a great oragasm during sex too so heres to positive thinking and the hopes the meds are working :) Will keep you all posted.

Thanks again guys for your support , opinions and for being a friend.

Hey guys just a quick update.... I have now been taking Paxil Cr for about 3 weeks and have been feeling much better. I seem to feel much more calmer and have not had a anxiety attack which is nice.

I have noticed sexually that it is hard for me to have a oragasm though which I have mentioned to the doctor. The doctor said give the medication about 6 weeks and I should start to be able to have a oragasm like I use to.... so I guess we will see?

I have no problem getting hard and staying hard its just when I feel like I am at the point of blowing my load I just cant and thats frustrating...lol.

Anyhow will keep you all posted and thanks again guys for your comments and support its truley appreciated.
