MacOS is a bad choice for gaming. That's what a Windows computer is for and with a good graphics card it's cheaper than a MacBook and a console.

+1

A lot of the games you see advertised for the MacBooks are not mainstream games.

Personally, I enjoy gaming on my computer because I am also into modding. However, if you just want to play the game and leave it at that, then a console might be a good investment. Is it worth $300? I'd say yes, if you find a good deal. Check out the sales on bundle packages, and don't forget to take advantage of the lowest price guarantee!

I fucking LIVE for the lowest price garantee! ;)

If I were to be a console user I'd go with the XBox, because it has the most HD-enabled games to date. The Sony PS3, while HD capable, actually only has a small handful of true HD games and their titles are (IMO) not as impressive as the XBox's. The WII is okay, but I view it as more of a party console. It is at its best with a big group of friends playing a casual game instead of a gamer settling down for a long night of dragon-hunting or BOOM headshots!

Just my two cents.

Get a console for those games that are just too demanding. Like GTA IV, Just Cause 2, BioShock 2, ect. Those such games won't run at all and if they do will run very slowly/low specs on that particular computer (running windows or OS X(if any of those are supported)). But if you want to play games such as L4D, Portal, or TF2, then just wait for Steam to show up on Mac and then for those games to follow suit, those should run pretty well on the system. BTW, if you already own them on steam (pc), then there is no need to buy them again for Mac.

It's up to you to decide on a console. Personally I would get a PS3, but that's because I happen to like games that normally end up as exclusives for sony.

PS3 can be a good console, but if one wants to play Left4Dead and other games that are from Steam you would need to go with a 360. Plus you don't need to upgrade hardware to make the 360 play smoothly unlike a PC / Mac you need to upgrade the RAM or video card.

You could always use bootcamp on your macbook to load up Windows OS on part of the hard drive and use that to hold a couple of games.

Not necessarily. Steam has been ported to mac and it is coming out in April.

But do the games play fast on a Mac? I've always had bad experience on Mac with games. The Sims 2 was very slow.

The standard Macbook pro can handle such games like L4D quite well. Most of the games Valve is porting over to Mac can run on 3-4 year old mid-range hardware. Also, the 360 Versions of the games don't have much if any mod support like its computer counterpart dose. It is the mods that keep these games going strong, IMO. Now if the mac versions of these games don't support mods, which would be really weird, then either version (360 or PC/Mac) would be fine. Though I would still support the Mac version of the game. It would encourage more game companies to produce a mac version of their games. It might also encourage Mac to put better components (I mean faster) in their products.

The old steam games run fine on old PC hardware as well ... after all - that's what the old mac consists of, too ;)

I am a gamer!

I've got a laptop for computer games, the only games I play are online games on my computer which require time and a subscription fee. I've also got a Xbox, if your looking to get back into gamming, i would recommend a Xbox, its cheaper than a PS3 and in my opion more fun. I know alot of people would disagree, but because of what a PS3 can offer but unless your willing to pay through the nose to get one then i'd stick with a xbox, you would have project natal to look forward to:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/projectnatal/

On my computer I play World of Warcraft and i've been playing it for about 4 or more years, and i'm not bored yet! very adictve though!

so to the above question, go for a console, just not a Wii because if you have one of them your only ever play it with friends and once project natal is realised it will make the wii reduntant!

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...eywords=xbox+360+console&x=0&y=0&sprefix=xbox

go on, buy one!

D'oh! Being a complete mac virgin, I totally took the Windows OS for granted. Oh well.

I was sooo looking forward to Sims 2/3 too :(

So console, right?

If you are wanting to play The Sims 3 then I would still use the Mac, a new Mac should play The Sims 3. But I keep hearing that PS3 will have Sims 3.

Sims 2/3 will work fine on the mac, I suggest Sims 3 first and wait for Sims 2 to come down in price or get bundled like the first Sims did. But if you want a Hard Core Shoot-them-up type games, then look for a console, 360 or PS3 has some good games. Make a list of the game titles that interest you, which ever console has the best titles you want wins. I would still say the PS3, because you have yet to need multiple disks to play a game while the 360 is starting too. Good example of that would be FFXIII, need 3 disks for 360 and doesn't offer as much content as the PS3 one. But the game library for the 360 is 10x's that of the PS3. So make a list of the games and go from there.

Most likely they will. They did that to 'The Sims 2' and 'The Sims 2 Pets.' Just don't expect any fluid controls for it. PC/Mac is still best for any Sim's game.

Yeah but at least the graphics will improve over The Sims 2 to Sims 3 on PS3. Expect near top graphics like the PC version. Unless its a Wii port which then it would be on PS2.

True about the better graphics, but playability triumphs over graphics (ie, keyboard shortcuts vs. a controller). It all depends on how you want to play it, weather it be a controller or a keyboard/mouse, and if you care about the expansion packs or mods. Console versions never get expansion packs or Mods.

That's when EA learns that DLC is the next best thing to hit Consoles and they will find ways to release DLC for The Sims 3 which makes people pay to buy Expansion Packs. Want to add dogs and new furniture, buy it from the PS Store. If EA doesn't jump on that wagon they will be kicking themselves in the ass for missing such a great opportunity.

I was mainly talking about the controls, not really focusing on DLC.

Now about DLC. You can already download the game and expansion packs from EA's Website via Direct Download (if it's not steam, I don't recommend it. Also it's only for Windows base computers). There's also the Sims 3 store full of DLC ripe for the picking. Granted not on the PS network, but sense there isn't a sims game available for the PS3 it doesn't matter.

Also, what about mods? What makes the game fun are the mods that the fans make.

Control wise, I'm sure it would suck using the PS3 controller but then maybe they will come out with a Mouse and Keyboard to do it. But then that's too much for me.

lol, so I can get Sims 3 and it will work for the mac?

Yes, it'll work. The mac your getting more then meets the requirements.

Unlike Sims 2, EA merged the PC version of Sims 3 with the Mac version of Sims 3 so it's on the same disk, no more confusion between versions, just hop into the store, grab a copy, go home, install into desired system, and your done. :D

Now if you want the Sims 2 too, you'll have to buy the version made just for mac.

Don't feel restricted to Mac-only games. One of the cool features Apple includes is a utility called Boot Camp that lets you install Windows on a section of the hard drive that you can choose to boot up if you want to play a PC game (so you can use Mac OS X too). Windows runs natively and has access to all of your computer's hardware, so it's as if you were running it on an actual PC. I've played many PC games using Windows on my MacBook Pro and have had zero issues. Don't listen to all the people saying your MacBook will only be able to play a limited library of titles :)

Read up more about Boot Camp here:

Scroll down to "It runs Windows, too".

I thought that was really good that they did that because it sucks when it was hard as hell to find The Sims 2 on Mac I think they sell them at the Mac Store near my boyfriend but its a rare find at your local Target.

Don't get me started on DLC .. or the new "we store your savegames online, so you always have to stay connected to play" crap by Ubisoft. I am boycotting all of them until they stop that crap :grrr:
