Pectoral implants

innocentbychoice said:
So i work out, but haven't got the results I want on my chest, so lately I've been considering pectoral implants. I read online that they're meant to make your pecs look bigger but they won't give you more definition so you should keep working out. That's not a problem for me; my question is do you know anyone who has gone through this procedure? How do they look? Are they satisfied?

Pec implants work best on two problems- asymmetry and funnel chest (pectus excavatum aka PE).

There are some guys who have a imperfection in the musculature on one side of their chest. As such, the two pecs will never be the same size. An implant can give the illusion of symmetry.

For guys who have narrow chests or a condition where the breastbone is curved inward (PE), the implants can add the illusion of depth to the chest.

There are guys who get them for purely cosmetic reasons with mixed results. There was a thread about 2 years ago where a member was having to have a implant replaced because he damaged it while exercising.

OMG is that common? I just googled it and it says that it is progressive so I don't think I have that but my chest does kinda look like that only not deformed.

I kinda have a hole in my chest like this kid : http://www.usnews.com/usnews/photography/surgery/graphics/surgery1.jpg

Do I have PE???:confused::confused:

OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is totally my body (but my pecs are a bit bigger):

I think I might have PE...I had no clue that was even a condition...Now I'm thinking I should go see a doctor.

EDIT: Yep, I've got PE.Totally. I keep googling and more pics* pop up of guys with, supposedly, that condition and they don't look bad or deformed as others who got surgery for that. So now I'm sure I got that. I wanna get it fixed (not with implants necessarily, seems like there's surgery for it)...but it's kinda embarassing to tell people that I want my boobs fixed hehe.

I know two guys who have this, but both can mask it pretty well with enough muscles, that's why they didn't do the surgery. Your case seems to be a bit more severe, I would definitely go to a doctor and ask about your options. The condition is really not that rare (1:300-400) and nothing to be ashamed of. The "old" procedure to fix this was pretty drastic but since around 10 years there is another minimalistic option which leaves almost not scars.

Yes thank you. I wanna go to a doctor.

In other news, my boyfriend is being a complete party pooper about it. He says I don't need it and that it's probably very expensive and risky blah blah... ugh he pissed me off. Will my insurance cover such surgery??

Oh and I really really want to thank you guys for opening my eyes, specially KaraBulut...Before yesterday, I had no clue such a condition existed, I didn't even know that freaking hole in my chest could be fixed; i've been very self-conscious about it and was very ashamed when I hit puberty. It doesn't bother me as much now, but I'm happy to realize that it can be fixed and that there's tons of people like me! I just wished I knew all of this before...I would have gotten this done a lot of time ago.

Again, thank you guys for letting me know about this. I really appreciate it.

Chest wall variations is not uncommon. Healthcare practitioners see them all the time and most people just believe they have a "narrow chest" or difficulty building their pecs.

It's a matter of degree as to whether surgery is warranted.

Check in with your doctor- he's the best person to evaluate the severity

Don't be so hard on him, basically he is just telling you that he likes you like you are, and fears that you might want to fix something that doesn't need fixing from his point of view. I have been on his place in this debate (not about a chest though). You of course still have every right to change it .. it is your body and in the end he should respect that.
In Germany your insurance will cover for it when it worse enough to possibly cause problems with the inner organs.

Yeah I guess I shouldn't be hard on him. I will be definitively seeing a doctor about this, even though I don't have high hopes that they will tell me to get a surgery; I don't think it does anything to my health, sometimes my left arm an shoulder hurt and sometimes I feel chest pain but it happens every once in a while.

Anyways I shouldn't be telling you this, I should be telling my doctor ;). I'm gonna get an appointment maybe next week. Thank you guys for everything.

Jesus has it really been 2 years?

Yes i did have to have them replaced. Its actually not uncommon most implants have a lifespan. These are much more comfortable than the others. The hard plastic kind suck ass. The day after i would do chest, they would cause more pain than normal. The solid-gel dont do that at all.

Im a very active guy, i go to the gym 7 days a week, do massive amounts of yoga and have a muscular body. But i have a very broad chest, and even with the help of oodles of trainers i wasn't getting the projection i wanted. The proper implant with the proper placement gave me that. You still have to work out, altho now i dont have to spend nearly the amount of time i was on chest. The only people who have been able to figure out i have implants are surgeons. I think the reason alot of those after pics looked boob like is because the surgeon who did them wasnt familiar with doing pec implants. Its not a common procedure, so its important to find a doctor who does do a lot of them. Ending up with tits itsnt the goal here.

If you want plastic surgery, find a good doctor and make sure your end result looks natural. Unless you live in California, in which case the "fake" look is what you're going for. :p

If getting the implants boosts you're self confidence and makes you feel good about yourself, go for it! Don't let people talk you out of it. People should love you for the you on the inside, but if changing your physical appearance makes you feel better about you, i say do it. In the long run implants will be cheaper than a life time supply of prozac. ;)

Hey!

I went to see the doctor today. She basically told me that pectus excavatum was pretty common and harmless and that I don't need to get that fixed because I was born with it and it is fuctional for my body. She told me to get an EKG and I did; I have to get the results tomorrow...But as I expected the PE surgery is a far dream now. I even asked the nurse who was doing my EKG and she also said PE is normal...So I'm screwed. I'll have to wait a few years to get the money for the PE surgery and then implants if I'm not satisfied.
