There is a school of thought out there amongst the hoi polloi which believes that telling someone he looks like someone else, particularly someone famous, is flattering. And there are enough people in the world who are flattered by such comparisons that it hasn't been stopped yet. My friend Caroline just laps that shit up, it makes her feel more special if she is thought to resemble Lucy Liu (though the only resemblance they share is their Chinese descent).

I've been told I look like all sorts of odd and unlikely people (from David Bowie to Cybil Shepard and everything in between), as well as being told I look like my father and three or four other anonymous individuals running around who apparently look just like me, and the rugged individualist in my is always acutely offended.

But most days I know it's just how people file other people away in their own minds and doesn't mean anything. I have a very forgettable face, kind of plain but not so plain as to be noticeably plain; and those who compare me to other people are just trying to find a folder in their cabinet to place me in.

I find it annoying when people say I look like someone. Really obnoxious.
Recent statements have ranged from the faggy brother on Frasier (God I hope I am not the queenny) to Wilem Defoe. At least Defoe is a great actor and plays mean/scary well.

Everyone thinks I look like my grandma...

But I once got called "Lance" by a N'Sync-lover girl in school because she thought I looked like Lance Bass (I didn't and don't see it much at all...maybe she was just talking about the gay part).

I'm not bothered by comparisons...provided I see what they're talking about and it's comparison to someone rather favourable. Though I always find all my worst features and blame them on my dad...

I get the "are you part Hispanic" thing a lot as well. I'm not, not even a smidge. Mind you, Latinos don't think I look Latino, it's just really 'white' Americans.
