I've already seen the movie, and I got to say that I loved it. I've actually seen it multiple times. The only main problem that I have with it was that they got one major Greek Myth wrong in the movie but other than that it was a very good movie.

Another major aspect that I saw in the movie was the man who played Percy Jackson. Was it just me or does he act, sound, and look like zac efron during the high school muscial days. Plus I think he is cute.

What did you guys think of the movie?

I thought it was an awful Harry Potter rip off. Parts of it looked rather cheap and tacky, kinda like they borrowed the sets from Xena Warrior Princess or Hercules.

I thought it was good and wouldn't mind seeing it again with a date. First time I saw it I was with my sister and nephew.

And yeah, there are a few hot/cute guys in it.

Hadn't seen it yet, but from the previews, yeah, he does sound like Zac Efron. I was surprised to learn he played Bobby on one of my all time favorite shows, Jack and Bobby, which was unfortunately canceled v_v.

The movie was good...It's not "dark" and they push the "comedy" envelope..

If you're looking for a "Harry Potter" substitute Percy ain't it..."Percy" is really a kiddie movie and a movie for the whole family...

They showed the previews for "Clash of the Titans" and it's been pushed up AGAIN to April...

What myth? I am a big mythology geek (I like Norse mythology most) so I'd like to know before I watch it...

They fudged up a couple of myths in the movie. For example, one of the main characters is supposed to be a child of Athena (a fact that is mentioned in the trailer, I believe, so I don't think I'm posting a spoiler). Well, according to Greek mythology, Athena is a virgin--and a jealous protector of her chastity. Much like her sister, Artemis, Athena valued her freedom and power more than anything, and giving themselves to a man, mortal or god, would have meant sacrificing both.

The obvious way to get around the virginal aspect of Athena would be to argue that love can claim anyone, even a virgin war goddess.

That's what happens when the director is the same! I think Chris Columbus made it too PG!!! Yes, it's a children book adapted into film but come on, the film was too much Potter-like. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, at least the "Greek" connection and Logan Lerman is hella cute! But Hogwarts = Camp Half-blood, and two boys one girl, Harry, Ron, Hermione? Oh well.

Hahaha, I only payed attention to Jack during the airing of Jack & Bobby...Matt Long was sexy HOT!!!

Logan Lerman was also in Hoot with Cody Linley.

This is going beyond the scope but it's much easier for the male gods to plant seeds and have children than female gods right? Unless our perception of the gods should be that although they are male and female, they can take any in mortal forms? Can you imagine Athena carrying a fetus and giving birth?

I saw it and thought it was horrible. They could have done a really amazing job, My main problem was the 'camp' and the immature love story.

I still blame the choice of the Columbo (yes I intentionally mispelled dumbo's name) for directing this. Again, I know it's a children book and the target audience is for families to watch, but that does not mean the art should be sacrifice to make it so. I would settle for PG-13 and not PG to enhance the movie going experience.

We have 2, 3, 4, 5 yr old and such listening to Lady Gaga and Ke$ha, I'm sure they can handle PG-13...though this argument is pretty much useless since I believe it total control and abstaining from youth corruption! Hahaha, settle exposure to corruption doesn't seem to conform to our society's standards anymore.

Thought it was good. I did not expect much and was very surprized. The cast and the story was entertaining. I'd to to a sequel if there is one. If it makes enough, there will be. Came out the wrong time of year.

Yeah it did, competing against Valentine's Day and I'm still shock that film grossed $52mil, oh well, should die down now that V-day is over and people moved on. The sequel is expected though not sure if all the books will be made into films...I hope so. And I hope the author of the books keeps writing, supposedly the next series of books is in the works but who knows.

Biggest disappointment ever is Eragon, there will never be a sequel because the movie was so bad! Hahaha.

I really liked the, movie some parts were kinda of corny. but it did have few sexual over tones in it to with the goat man

Eric....Remember "Percy" was able to rake in a ton of cash during the 3-day weekend Presidents Holiday..Kids were out of school last Monday..

That was Valentines Day weekend where that Valentines Day movie pulled in $52mill at #1, and Percy was #3 with $32 or something.

February is such a short month and we have Lincoln, President, and Washington Day except yesterday (Monday) was Washington and it's not a day off. Only Lincoln and President...

I'm hoping Percy still pulls in $150mil or more here and worldwide. Should be able to, since only movie I see that is a potential blockbuster is the remake of Clash of the Titans...more Nicholas Hoult!!!

The way it was explained in the book was that when and if Athena made a connection with a mortal, it was one based on intellect and wisdom and that like the way she was born from Zeus' brain, her children were brought forth much the same way, without carrying the child and giving birth.

I liked the movie, for the most part, because I like Logan. I think he's a fine actor and he's definitely easy on the eyes. But the movie could have been so much more. The books are really excellent and if you ever get a chance to read them, do so. It will feel like a completely new experience because Columbus really did butcher the source material. lol.

Makes sense. I need to refresh up on my Greek Mythology, especially those concerning the Olympians. Given the author only loosely based his books on the myths, and there a few versions of the myths, e.g. how Zeus overthrew his father.

Now I wonder how the other few goddess "gave birth" like Aphrodite. And yes, Columbo should stick to make cartoon films, he butchers everything else up!

I'm looking for the entire series as a collection in paperback for dirt cheap...I found the hard cover on Amazon for about $50, but that's still too much, I'd rather have paperback. I'll keep the hard cover for classical works and textbooks, lol.

According to the books the goddesses are pregnant but when the child is born the offspring must grow up with its father, the mortal parent. In the case of Annabeth, the daughter of Athena, right after she was born she was delivered to he father in a golden cradle.

The HUGE myth that they did mess up was with Persephonie. In the movie it is the summer solstice and she is down in Underworld which could never happen. According to Greek Mythology, Persephonie was tricked into marriage by Hades and Hades tried to keep persephonie down in the underworld for all time. The other gods especially he her mother Demeter would not have that. A deal was struck that Persephonie stay in Underworld for half of the year, Autumn and Winter, and come to live on Earth the other half, Spring and Winter. This was how Persephonie became the goddess of the seasons. When Persephonie went down into the underworld all the earth would start to die and when winter came everything was dead. When she returned to Earth again in the Spring though everything started to bloom and by the time of Summer everything was in flourishing. That was the major mistake that I saw, I'm really happy that wasn't in the books but that just annoyed me.

I enjoyed it for what it was. I guess because I went through a Greek mythos phase @ 13 so I was glad to see characters/creatures that I recognize.

My sis said they changed a bit of stuff from the book, but as a film I thought it was decent. And Percy & his satyr friend were cute so there's that...

Enjoyed it way more than the 1st (and only) Harry Potter movie I saw like seven years ago.
