Re: Perez Hilton was just beat up in his hotel room
Well I have an aversion to music by the Jonas Brothers and their "saving it for marriage Christian Culture" but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone roughing up a blogger at a Jonas Brothers concert. I may dislike them but I would be pretty surprised if they got their manager to punch someone in the face for calling them "Faggot."
I don't know if I've ever heard of anyone getting in the Jonas Brother's face outside of a concert, where they're pressed in by a crowd and not able to get away while they are being verbally assaulted. I mean, I'm sure they've got hecklers and such, but I don't know if the situations are similar enough for a comparison. And if the Jonas Brothers
were in a similar situation, where it was hard for their management to move them away quickly, and someone was in close proximity and being that obnoxious, I wouldn't be surprised at all if that person didn't get a little fist-kiss for their trouble.
AND, in the TMZ video (I might have missed it), I don't recall hearing Will incite anyone to violence. Seems like the manager might have done it of his own volition and feelings of loyalty.
I've been pretty open with my distain for Mariah Carey but I don't recall her ever having her manager punch out anyone who called her a "slut." Which is good, because I call her a slut all the time.
Have you ever seen anyone corner her such that she found it hard to get away, and call her slut and otherwise verbally harass her? If you had, I think you would have seen someone get their cranium cracked.
I'm always fired up. But I didn't get so involved that I wished death or bankruptcy on anyone. I mean I'm always down for lively debate (it's often what I come here for) but I don't think I've ever wished that much pain and suffering on a celebrity (except when I'm obviously joking like saying I hope Mariah Carey gets hoof in ass disease).
But you get involved enough to indict someone as a homophobe? In my world, that's a pretty serious accusation. Homophobes are not taken lightly amongst my friends. Like calling someone a racist. It's not an accusation to throw around with us, if for no other reason that it cheapens the experiences of people who have been beaten the fuck down, randomly, for being who they are. Whether black or gay or both.
Plus, even though Mariah's voice/life/personality might be noisome to some, she isn't trying to hurt anyone. Perez is in the business of humiliating people. It's not really a good analogy.
And in response to those who say "why this five-page thread about something that really doesn't matter as much as other things going on in the world", I would say that both "god" and "the devil" are in the details, and this incident isn't valuable so much because of the principal characters involved, but because of the issues it makes us discuss. In my opinion.
