Perez Hilton presses online for gay celebs to come out

Would people be so furious if someone disclosed that a celebrity or politician were Jewish, or were black, or were latino? Are Hilton's motives or looks relevant? The only rationale I can think of for all the anger towards Hilton's actions is a subconscious feeling that being gay is a shameful secret.

I agree with your view that a good number of gay men and women perceive homosexuality as a shameful secret at some moment of their lives. In my case that's not the reason why I'm not a fan of Perez Hilton. Hilton's motives are not neutral in my view. I'm for basic human rights and one of the most basic rights is the right to human dignity. Perez Hilton's work ethics and strategies show no respect for human dignity. The guy is far from a human rights activist. He is self-centered and not too different from old Hollywood gossip columnists Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper except for a laptop and Wi-Fi. The Hollywood star making machinery is also responsible. Too many publicists and PR agencies are against the idea of coming out because of financial considerations. Is Mr Hilton interested in those who have the real power in the movie industry or is he just interested in the star of the month?

Pretty simple. We should stop crying about how painful and difficult it is to be gay. Wringing our hands over our tragic lives just encourages more generations of gay men to hide, weeping, in the closet. It's too bad that we can't instead encourage a "fuck you I'm gay" attitude. But the cringing, fearful, furtive lifestyle is actually defended by young gay men who I had assumed had moved on to a more self-confident, open life. No wonder people continue to view us with contempt: it's how so many of us view ourselves.

Hell yeah!!!!! I agree a 100%. I absolutely love Perez Hilton and I think what he's doing is great. I'm gay and proud of it and I know that if celebrities or anyone didn't feel pressure (as the one created by perez) they would all live in their safe worlds pretending to be str8 and we would have no progress."Outing is a process" well duh, it's not like Perez is outing 14 year olds. These are mature people who know they're gay and hide it because they're ashamed of it.

So I urge everyone to come out of the closet. And the ones who feel like it's not good or safe, are u a 100% comfortable with being gay? I love it and there's nothing better than having freedom to be who you are.
