I just rented this movie and watched it today. it was F'ed up! Ben Wishaw who plays the lead is hot and Alan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman are amazing as usual. It's about a young man with a super-sensitive sense of smell who "collects" young women to make the ultimate perfume. It's direcred by Tom Tykwer of "Run Lola Run".

Just saw this last weekand thought it was really well done. Great production
values and so authentic a look that you could smell it ! It's a grim story but told
with such drollery that you're drawn right in. There's even Dustin Hoffmann in a
cameo giving one of his fussiest, most ticky performances but looking like he's
having a ball. Worth a look ! ;)

An excellent and unique movie. But I didn't like the climax.

Saw this on a flight from UK to Houston - loved it! Such an 'off the wall' story.
Think Ben Wishaw is a sexy little fellah - and he can act too!

^Was the ending in the book much different than it was in the film?

I so loved the book, that I didn't want to spoil it by seeing the film and being disappointed.
However, after reading this thread, I might just get it out, seeing as you folk thought it was good.
Thanks..|

That movie was unbelievably disgusting and disturbing. I mean it's a great movie but it's really gross.

That scene where his mother gave birth to him..............oh gawd...

yep i can only second/third that - read the book. after reading the book i never expected the movie to be worth anything, but actually it turned out quite good. but still - the book is better :)

I watched it last night. I really liked it. Very well done. I can easily see why the novel was something most people thought could never translate to the screen. But, the director really pulls it off! One of the better movies that I have seen all year. Will probably be adding it to my collection at some point...

It looks like a very amazing movie, and when I saw the preview a few months ago, I though, Holy Shit, that is gonna be one freaky movie.

Well, I saw the movie and thought it was very good indeed.
They cast the lead character well, didn't they. And yes he is hot!
The book itself, was short but dense in description and atmosphere, and I'm really glad they were able to achieve that in the film.
Thanks for the recommendation, nickscotti et al!..|
