Hi

I just bought a Philips Norelco Bodygroom Wet\Dry Shaver. I had one several years ago and tossed it but decided to give it another try. I remember it giving me some irritation but I THINK I was using it incorrectly.

Does anyone have experience with it?
Good\Bad?
Do you use it with or without shaving cream? (I did NOT use shave cream at all when I had it the first time)
Skin irritation?
What type of product did you use AFTER to prevent skin irritation?
Did you shave your balls with it?

Anything else you can add would be great! :-)

I have one.
Better than a beard trimmer but not perfect. Must admit I did not read instructions.
Irritation? I have not used the screen or foil part, just the toothed part.
Sometimes use a powder to smooth things over.
Yes I do shave my hanging jewels with it. They are not overly huge but do hang with loose skin. This is where I get nicks from the trimmer. I just can't seem to spread/stretch the loose skin on the scrotum enough to prevent the teeth on the trimmer from taking a nick here and there, the trimmer nicks this skin in spots and is slightly painful and gets a "ouch" responce from me.

I use it dry, maybe I need to try it wet or with shaving cream. There is a lotion recommended for shaving that is not shaving cream, can't remember the name.

Or maybe I need to read the instructions....................

I have hinted and even suggested to friends that they help me out, but so far no takers.
I am interested in what others have to say about this trimmer.

Oh come on! what guys read instructions? LOL

I did a search online to see if shaving cream is good or needed. You def can use it as it will not ruin the shaver. Actually for the balls and taint area, use the foil part only, not the clippers on the sides. The clippers are for when you trim your bush or hairy area on the chest or wherever.
I tried the foil part on my arms and it actually works with no irritation or pulling of the hairs. When I was originally using it, I was always using the clippers and thought "what's the point?" but now I see that using the foil part in the middle does not cause irritation. I found that solution from a web search.

I will use the clippers when I shave my bush right above pecker. :D

... I read the instructions. LOL.

I posted about this very thing in a thread about body hair but I didn't mention the exact shaver/trimmer I got. I got the same BodyGroom you did with the shaver on one side and the trimmer (clipper) on the other.

I use the trimmer side for pubic hair and surrounding hair on the upper and inner thighs, but use the shaver for the balls and around the asshole as well as between the asshole and balls. Trimming the pubes is quite easy and I do it on the shortest setting (it always grows back). I grab my balls in my left hand and squeeze so that the skin is mostly flat and easy to shave and that seems to work.

Shaving around the asshole is the hardest part, though. I've only done it twice by myself (had a boyfriend help me the other times luckily) and trying to shave a part of your body that you can't see can be very difficult. The second time I tried, I nicked myself and started bleeding a little bit. It wasn't that bad of a cut at all, but all those nerve endings back there make it seem like you sliced yourself open with a machete. I guess it just takes some practice and maybe a mirror or a good, close friend to help out.

I tried shaving both wet and dry and there wasn't that much of a difference in difficulty, but I assume it would be easier to shave while dry as the hair won't stick to the skin or to other hair. I also don't use any gel or cream, though I have heard that Magic Shave (from a Davey Wavey video, go figure) helps a lot for those shaving body hair. Never used it, so I can't give a personal recommendation, but if you see it in a store you may want to give it a try.

use it for the trimmer but you can't beat a modern safety razor for shaving your tender areas. Any modern safety razor that has a tilting head is perfect, try to avoid the ones with solid heads as if you have a bad technique you will risk a nick or cut.

Try something like the Schick xtreme 3 disposable. While I hate using modern safety razors, they are unbeatable for areas like your junk.

.

Make sure you follow good shaving prep even though its not your face.

1. Trim first, and trim any longer hairs that you are going to shave.
2. Have a shower, or at least apply a handtowel or cloth soaked in water as hot as comfortably possible for 60-120 seconds.
3. A good shaving cream. Canned goo is fine, but to be honest, even the old gillette foam/foamy range performs decently (and its cheap).

4. Pull skin slightly taught to avoid any nicks and scrapes. Don't use much pressure, just let the blade do the work.
5. Rinse with plenty of warm water then cool water and you are done.

I don't shave often down there, but I have never once cut myself with a razor in that area. Once you get the hang of it, its not a daunting task in the least, I feel sorry for women though.

I have a Norelco bodygroom with a single black trimmer head that can be changed to several levels and a foil shaver attachment. I almost never use the foil shaver part as it's useless. The trimmer works for the most part but it can get irritating or cuts skin at certain angles and parts. I would never use the trimmer without the attachment on private/sensitive parts as it's too aggressive.

The main cons I have is it's not so great for sensitive skin and the battery life is short for me. I'd rather have a trimmer that plugs into an outlet than these fancy looking cordless trimmers that die on you half way through the job.

Update on BodyGroomer:

Well... I did read the directions...somewhat AsterGod!

I used a depilatory (dissolver shit) on my chest and abs first, and then got in the shower and rinsed it off. I still had some hair on my chest so I used Noxema Shaving Cream for Sensitve Skin and used the BodyGroomer (foil only part) and now have a nice, smooth chest and abs, no irritation. --%-- I did use the clipper part with attachment first to get rid of the longer hairs and then dissolver and then foil part so now I can keep up with it ONLY using the foil part since now my chest is smooth. I also used the clippers with attachment on my bush and it shaved it nicely... used it without shaving cream.

I should have used the clippers and then foil section on my ass crack and groin because I ended up shaving my pucker with a 2 blade with the Noxema and it's actually fine but a little redness around the exit area. I used the dissolver at the top of my butt crack and have nice red irritation that hurts  a bit but going away slowly. I have been making sure to keep it clean and using some non-petroleum vaseline to heal it.

So this will take a bit of time to figure out how to properly use it. ..|

Please add more comments about your experiences with these products.

Oh!... I will never do waxing again!.. that was torture!

If you're going to use a depilatory on your nether-regions, you should use the one formulated for the "bikini area" or "sensitive area". The regular strength is designed for use on women's legs where the skin is more keratinized and more able to tolerate the caustic chemicals.

Good advice! ..|

I never thought of using the women's depilatory but will def try for the next time. The Magic Shave Depilatory Cream (men's) worked fine on my chest, butt-cheeks only (except for when I got it at the top of my ass crack - OUCH!!), down the sides of my legs, and my feet so I will continue to use it there...

More updates coming up about the Wet\Dry Groom as I keep using it.

I missed an area right below my sack and above my taint on the sides where there is some "bush" so I will use the "hedge-clippers" with attachment and then foil part to make smooth. I also use Cetaphil Soap as my derm doc suggested that one because it's very mild and non-irritating. I bike a lot so I am very prone to butt chafing in the groin and used emoillants like Udder Cream, non-vaseline products, Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel (this works great!!... and use it after shower to prevent butt chafe while working at office), and a hydrocortizone cream(prescription) to get rid of the redness and irritation.

UPDATE:
Norelco Body Groomer is working well. No irritation now that I know how to use it correctly. I've been using shaving cream with dimethicone (Noxema) and then using the foil top of it and now irritation at all. Did it on my chest yesterday in the shower. It takes a bit getting used to but overall I like it and glad I went back to it for another try!

Thanks for the update! It's coming time for me to do the manscaping down there again, so I may take your suggestion and do what you did. Glad it worked out for you!

Oh sure... you're welcome!

I meant to write "no irritation" on my last post..not "now irritation".

Also, I advise to use a good shaving cream that coats the skin so much less irritation. I like shaving creams with the dimethicone which creates a barrier between the skin and razor. You want to get a shaving cream that is not too foamy but has a nice cream base.

After shaving, I will spread Palmer's Cocoa Butter on my balls, groin, chest, or wherever shaving to moisturize and protect the skin. Palmer's smells good too! :D
