What? Me? Really?
I only recently found out that the phrase, "well bless your heart", is actually an insult implying limited intelligence.
Used to hear "bless your heart" all the time growing up in Virginia.
Well, to be fair, it isn't always an insult.
Often, it is just a mindless sympathetic statement.
And, it can be a tongue-in-cheek comment.
The use of it in cinema and other genre's to drip with sarcasm is exaggerated for dramatic effect. I rarely hear it used condescendingly.
