The only thing that might happen is him slitting your throat and driving away with your wallet and car. Why is it that people think the corny plots of gay porno movies are applicable to real life?

Besides if the guy doesn't kill you and he's willing to have sex with you for a ride... just imagine the "milage" on him as a hitch hiker (STDs anyone?).

I've hitch-hiked, and picked up hitch-hikers..
Never had a problem either way..

The few times I have picked up hitchhikers were not pleasent. Nothing really bed happend. So I don't pick up hitchhikers anymore, unless I realy know they need help, like standing beside their car, with the hood up, or I pass a car, then I see someone walking with a gas can. That type of thing.

I gave a lift to an old man with a walking stick who lived at the bottom of my street. I regretted it, because he was a smoker, and even though he didn't light up, I could still smell the wreek of tobacco in my car for days afterwards.

Once, and only because he was hot. Nothing happened...but he sure looked good sitting in the seat next to me.

I was picked up as a hitch hiker a lot when I was 18 or 19.I am relieved to say nothing ever bad happened to me and at the very worst they would occasionally turn me onto joints.

Over the years, I've hitchhiked and picked them up as well. Never had a problem and no, nothing ever happened like it happens in the porno movies. In the past few years, I don't do it anymore. Too dangerous. Besides that, in my area, hitchhiking is now illegal. The cops don't really enforce it but if they catch you hitchhiking, they will run you off in no uncertain terms. If you persist, they will arrest you under a violation of city ordinance. The fine is $250 or jail.

I have hitchhiked and picked up hitchhikers.
Blowjobs have been given and received.

but not since 1980
just to damn scary now.

Yep.
Stuff happened. :D
And stuff didn't happen. "Oh well, nice meetin' ya, take care, yeah, here's three bucks."
But I don't know how your sense of who's cool and who's not is.
Be very judicious, bro'! Or even forget it if you live in certain places. Or if you are unfamiliar with the "culture."

Yes, several times. One very hot guy turned out to be a cock tease after I'd gone miles out of my way to take him where he wanted to go. Another was a soldier who was hot to trot -- we ended up in a motel and fucked our brains out. Actually I don't think I ever did get my brain back. (*S*)

Never have picked up a hitchhiker although I have been tempted on occasion, but I have fantasied about it!

SurfBoy18, you made me laugh!! I'd give you a ride anytime, and you don't even have to wear shorts...

But re other posts: why are gay men so obsessed with serial killers and psychos??? From hitchhiking to meeting guys off the internet, everyone acts like they're starring in Scream 4! When I was 18 (1970s) I hitchhiked all over the country, had sex with some, not with others, the only time I was scared was on the way back to California and I made the mistake of jumping in the car without looking first and the car was full of Charles Manson type guys - but even then, I just got out when they stopped for gas, no problem. I had a guy who gently mentioned sex (I didn't even catch it at first, I was 18!) and we ended up doing it, very nice; an awesome trucker and I had every drug ever invented from Oklahoma to Arizona (no sex but looking back he wanted it but was too nice to push it cause I was so young and dumb, and I wanted it but was too young and dumb to push it), parents of a young Native American guy gave me a ride and the mother said she hoped her son who was also off hitchhiking would also get rides from nice people, another time a young Native American guy gave me a ride and told me how proud he was to be a member of his tribe (I can't remember which one)...really nice people, really nice experiences. (I spent one night in a graveyard in Alabama, and the only thing happened was that I slept.) I've given rides recently, one time to a cute young guy trying to get to work, another time a middleaged guy going to get groceries (and then picked him up going back home, good timing). The odds of ending up in Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Saw or Jeepers Creepers - do gay men watch too many horror movies or what? Or is USA culture in general getting freaked out, seeing psycho killers everywhere? Nancy Grace sets our mental agenda, maybe? Yikes. I don't think "times have gotten worse", I think our obessions and fears have changed. Maybe instead of believing in community and changing the world, we now believe in taking care of ourselves and fearing everyone else?:-({|=

Yeah, I'm with you. I had some great experiences hitchhiking. My first serious boyfriend and I spent a long weekend hitchhiking together all over the Bay Area -- what a great feeling of rootlessness, of being really dependent on each other. A car trip wouldn't have done that.

Of course then there was the time I got arrested -- actually had a hot ending but I'm saving that for the Stories forum.

I've never had any experience myself. I'm too cautious. One guy I was commuting with for a while was a big Baptist and super religious - and a nice guy, too, I have to admit. He did tell me one time that he stopped to pick up a hitch hiker and it took a while for the guy to walk up to the car. When he got the car he had a hard on which freaked out the Baptist to no end.

He went ahead and gave him a ride but told the guy to stay on his side of the car.

It's so funny because I would think any other straight guy would have just left Mr. Hard On by the side of the road, but my acquaintaince, be the good Christian he is, went ahead and gave the guy a ride.

I have been a hitchhiker when I had no car, and I have picked quite a few. Nothing ever happened :( but some I took were very nice looking !

It's been yers since I've picked up a hitchhiker - probably only once or twice since 1990 or so. I used to commonly do so in the 1970's and early 1980's, but in those days hitchhiking was *FAR* more common than it is now. And with several of them, it did turn into sex - including one who I saw a few times who was one of the hunkiest guys I've ever had fun with (early to late 80s, he looked much like the Christopher Atkins of that same time period but was somewhat more muscular).

Though picking up hitchhikers is dangerous, I have always felt that being a hitchhiker was probably more dangerous. I think that's especially true now, I have this perception that SO MANY PEOPLE ARE NOW AFRAID OF HITCHHIKERS that only "predators" will pick them up. I would never go hitching now, though I have no doubt I'll pick up somebody else at some point. There have almost always been very interesting stories and conversations that resulted, and the experiences have usually been pleasant and often enlightening.

In 1990, on the way to Florida (as my mother was dying), I picked somebody up north of Atlanta, and our destinations parted at Lake City FL. I regretted my decision right away...this guy was SCARY! He was vaguely referring to something bad that he "did back up there" and I'll always think that he was very possibly running away from a murder, robbery or rape. However I found stuff to talk about with him, and we parted routes without incident where I mentioned, as he merely continued hitching toward Tampa while I split off for the Daytona area.
