SurfBoy18, you made me laugh!! I'd give you a ride anytime, and you don't even have to wear shorts...
But re other posts: why are gay men so obsessed with serial killers and psychos??? From hitchhiking to meeting guys off the internet, everyone acts like they're starring in Scream 4! When I was 18 (1970s) I hitchhiked all over the country, had sex with some, not with others, the only time I was scared was on the way back to California and I made the mistake of jumping in the car without looking first and the car was full of Charles Manson type guys - but even then, I just got out when they stopped for gas, no problem. I had a guy who gently mentioned sex (I didn't even catch it at first, I was 18!) and we ended up doing it, very nice; an awesome trucker and I had every drug ever invented from Oklahoma to Arizona (no sex but looking back he wanted it but was too nice to push it cause I was so young and dumb, and I wanted it but was too young and dumb to push it), parents of a young Native American guy gave me a ride and the mother said she hoped her son who was also off hitchhiking would also get rides from nice people, another time a young Native American guy gave me a ride and told me how proud he was to be a member of his tribe (I can't remember which one)...really nice people, really nice experiences. (I spent one night in a graveyard in Alabama, and the only thing happened was that I slept.) I've given rides recently, one time to a cute young guy trying to get to work, another time a middleaged guy going to get groceries (and then picked him up going back home, good timing). The odds of ending up in Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Saw or Jeepers Creepers - do gay men watch too many horror movies or what? Or is USA culture in general getting freaked out, seeing psycho killers everywhere? Nancy Grace sets our mental agenda, maybe? Yikes. I don't think "times have gotten worse", I think our obessions and fears have changed. Maybe instead of believing in community and changing the world, we now believe in taking care of ourselves and fearing everyone else?![]()
