Plantar Fasciitis...

Sorry to hear that. If the pain is really strong, you may want to try the Therapain spray. It is in expensive but you have to keep spraying it on for temporary relief.

You should really consider getting one of those boots for when you sleep. What size shoe do you wear? And is it your right, left of both feet that are giving you the problem?

Just seen this Thread for the first time. I suffered from this a few years ago and know the pain that you suffer. I really recommend an arch support in my case they gave me complete relief. In the UK they are sold in our drug stores and they are not really expensive abbout £10 or $15, I found that soft slippers were the worst and I wore the arch support in them. Still have one put away if I was in the States I would send it to you to relief your pain. Hope you find some relief.

I have the same problem and it's been well over a year for me. I did get the steroid shots and still no relief. I have the inserts and that helps, but it's not enough.

Alan, Gerry, it's great to see y'all talking about this. I didn't know anyone else who had this.

I just don't know if going back to the doc will even help.

It was a very interesting experience to get shots in the foot. The first one helped for a few days, but the last two did virtually nothing for me. I've tried several painkillers and none have helped.

stretch your calves
you can get a splint to wear that will help you

Good luck! I hope you'll be able to rest this weekend! Take care of yourself!!

The Pianist and Snapcat

I have so much empathy with you guys!
What a pain (literally).

I can tell you that after two years of this ailment I am feeling hardly any pain now! When I first put my feet on the floor in a morning I do get a twinge or two but it wears off after half an hour or so - and that is how it started in the first place so I'm hoping the condition is now going in reverse! It has naturally healed (heeled!:D ) itself.

I refused the steroid injections that my doctor offered as a last resort (I just could not stand the thought of the needles or the drug) but it was very confusing what my different doctors advised.

One recommended I lost weight and carried on as normal and it would probably go away, one said I must not walk at all, the other recommended I had insoles made and rolled my feet on cans of beans.

I had it in both heels (Can you imagine limping from two feet?) and it was so bad that 6 months in I could only just about walk to my kitchen from my bed. I couldn't even put my shoes on so the insoles weren't much good. Later on I thanked God for my bike. As I wasn't bearing weight on my heels I could get out and about to the shops.

Hopefully you guys won't have it for the long haul. (*8*)

By the way just as an afterthought, the first doctor I spoke to said I had 'Policemans Heel'. Apparently the condition was common in the police force when they used to walk the beat.

Also a number of athletes have suffered from it too.

Thanks for bumping this.

I did get the orthotic inserts for my shoes. Thankfully insurance covered it since I am diabetic. I've had some relief, but it's too early to tell how much.

Alan, my doc prescribed a Vitamin B called Metanx. I started taking that about the same time as I got the orthotics. Reportedly it helps with diabetic neuropathy and something with the heart. I figured it can't hurt.

Alan, you better be taking care of yourself! Let us know how you're doing!

I used to have that till I went to the podiatrist and got custom-made orthotics that are molded to the shape of my foot. Cost $300 the pair, with a lifetime replacement guarantee. Best money I ever spent.

I wear them in every pair of shoes -- you have to remove the pre-existing liner so they'll fit.

Maybe the fabled Canadian health care system will pick up part of the cost.

I have been there and done that with both heels. The first one lasted 9 months. After the pain in it stopped, the second one started and lasted 9 months. Never let your heels hit a hard floor. Always wear slippers with soft foam soles, even in the shower. I found Spenco PolySorb Insoles with the closed-cell foam to be helpful. A friend told me they helped him also.

Dear Piano Man,

How is your Plantar Fasciitis doing? I hope that it is gone or under control by now. (*8*)

that is either something I had or have now. anymore than 5 letter and they all sound the same.
If it is one that I had then it must be this one.
the doctor says that he was reading about a new way to remove these things and would like to try it on me. I thought why not, the pain I was having was so intense I'd try most anything.
The doctor injects the knumbing stuff and then proceeded to spray the stuff over his face. that was the highlight of the day. then then proceeded to perform . Holy rat shit di that hurt. that was just the beginning. double rat shit. after a lot of pain he said he was done and I should stay off the foot for several days.
Today that part of my foot feels great

Plantar Fasciitis is not fun, but I deal with it pretty regularly lots of people have it.
Take a can of soup or something and run your foot back and forth over it every morning for 10 minutes or so. This will help to stretch out the tendons on the plantar surface of your foot. You have to do this regularly in order to loosen up the stiffness eventually it will go away. Surgery has debatable results.

Don't you just hate it when you click on a thread and realize it's shit and have to scroll down and down and down to just get out of it?

Now Noni, that wasn't nice![-X There are easier ways to leave a thread, you know.

Angedelune is right, though. I've dealt with this for years. I will NOT be having surgery! I even have one of those boots you're supposed to sleep with. Used it once.

^ Yea, the boot did me no good at all. I can't even begin to add up how much money I paid the podiatrist last year. Nothing worked.

Get yourself properly fitted orthotics. I was in agony with PF.
