Please help me to understand tattoos

People get tattoos for all sorts of reasons. For each person that does get a tattoo, I just hope they get it for the right reason. I know that I will die with my tattoos. I have two and that's probably all I will have. Each one has a special meaning to me. Every time I see it, it reminds me.

It's your body; you can do whatever you like with it.

Even if everyone around you gets a tattoo it doesn't mean you have to get one.

If that's what you're starting to worry about.

Peer pressure can be very powerful. It sounds like you're just thinking this through out loud. That's okay, that's why we're all here.

I never understand the point of tattoos also its also a huge turn off. Some guys look like they got in a bad fight with an ink pen.

But it seems like every freaking guy on the planet has a tattoo

Moral of the story is, always know your artist, and always research your characters. :)

Ha! Thanks.

I think I don't like the idea of permanence. I haven't yet found an image I'd want to walk around with every day for the rest of my life.

I hear you saying, "He has committment issues." Maybe.

To clarify, i didn't get defensive.

And to clarify further, you didn't exactly ask your question in a nice way. I mean, you did start out with "i really don't like tattoos", making up your mind about them before you even got down to a question.

So i don't see why you expected everyone - especially those with tats - to play nice.

Well, initially, I didn't think you did either. But you certainly did now.

I did ask my question very nicely. What kinds of words must one use for you to not feel attacked? You’ll have to give me a primer on how to talk to you in the future so I don’t offend you. Geez, are you that way with everyone?

I said I didn’t like tattoos. That was the proper thing for me to say because it lets you know where I’m coming from. Why do you think that reflects negatively on you?

I don't like anal sex.

I don't understand anal sex.

Why anyone would stick a dick or anything else up their ass is beyond me.

Why would you do that?

I'm not judging you or anything, I just don't like what you do.

Sound familiar?

No, it does not sound familar. Your analogy falls flat because I didn’t say I don’t like what you do. I said I don’t like tattoos. It has nothing to do with an individual who has tattoos. What if I said Mary dyes her hair. I don’t like dyed hair. Does that mean I don’t like Mary? Not at all.

You told a group of people you don't like their lifestyle and then wondered why 'we' responded with some bitterness. I am no different in personality than I was before my tattoos. I just have them now. But you said that you'd look at me differently with tattoos. Why?

What? You made a huge leap here. I did not tell anyone I didn’t like their lifestyle. I merely asked for help to understand why people get tattoos.

I wouldn't look at you any differently before or after knowing if you're straight or gay or if you bottom or top (which isn't something I would ask, just go with my logic here).

Tattoos, like homosexuality, had a certain stigma back in the day. Now that they are more mainstream it isn't hoodrats and gangsters and biker dudes getting them. It's everyday people. And gay people aren't all fruity swishers with lisps.

See?

I've annotated your reply.

I think the human body is sheer perfection the way God made it. So, when I see people sporting tattoos, I think that they believe their body is imperfect and can be improved upon by drawing a picture on it.
What an ignorant opinion.

I'm getting a tattoo pretty soon, and its not because i think my body is imperfect.
I'm getting it because there's lots of things in life that inspire me, and I always want to have that inspiration. By getting a tattoo, its a constant reminder of that inspiration.

What really bugs me is when people leave stupid comments on some of the men in the porn gallery like "hot guy but is ugly because of tattoos"

Grow the fuck up.

You gave a very ignorant opinion of tattoos before you asked your question.

People are going to get defensive if you're offensive.

I got my tattoo for many personal reasons. In short it is my motto, how I live my life. Too those that know me they know I am true to its meaning. Further more I got it on a very important date to me.

Everything about it I know I will not regret. In time I will get my second and last tattoo.

i currently only have one. its an ambigram of the 4 elements. (read Dan Browns "Angels And Demons" for what the tattoo looks like. they call it the Illuminati Diamond) i got it because the 4 elements are a key part of life. and because i like the design.

I'm not getting a tattoo because if I needed a drawing on my body to remind me of who I was or what I believed in, or what I stood for, or what was important to me, I would probably be well into my senility by that point. When I'm old and in the grip of dementia, I'll probably think my cereal box is a tattoo, and that will be good enough for me. I'll be so happy I won't know what hit me!

Until then, I know who I am, I know what I think, and I know where I'm going.
