OMG! I am at my wits end with my email box. This what happened. I have a PC, and used to have as server (that correct term??) IE6 . And my email box is Outlook Express. When I was with IE6 i seemed to be able to easily delete emails, and manage my email box alright.

SO. I am advised by lots of people to go to Firefox, which I did a while back, BUT, OMG now my email box--I am still with outlook express--has gone friggin mad. I try and delete posts and they keep returning. posts have come back in dark black text that i deleted ages ago, and it is all a friggin mess.

Someone told me to go onto Thunderbird and that i can transfer posts emails to Thunderbird. FINE, BUT I still need to know how to delete the posts i DON'T want from Outlook express or else that is gonna be a memory sapper.

So first before I do anything I need to be able to delete posts from Outlook Express...PULeeeeeze can anyone help me:cry:

)))))))Well maybe, but I noticed this problem materialze soon after I went to Firefox

have you been deleting them and then deleting the deleted folder which is like the bin for outlook

))))))Well, what I used to do before I went to Firefox was just highlight the emails I wanted to delete and click the delete button in the tool bar at top of page, and it USED to work. My email list would get shorter and shorter etc. But now when I try same process not only do the ones I delete not stay deleted, but ones I deleted AGES ago, even before I went to Firefox are there in my email box.

also emails will take up little memory i dont know where there stored as i dont use outlook

))))))OH. But it still is such a MESS. I am not a tidy obsessed person, but this might turn me....lol

ill have a look and see

Thanks man,

Outlook Express (OE) keeps the mail in dbx format files in a folder that can be found by going into your options / maintenance / store folder.

)))))))and then what??

Internet Explorer (IE) can be used to view web mail stored on a server that has the appearance of Outlook - is that what you're using?

))))All I know is, I had OE before, and when I changed to Firefox I kept it

Can you give us more specific details because as AJ said IE isn't OE and neither of them should be affected by the installation of Firefo (FF).

:)

Well at the top of the page of my email page is the header 'Outlook Express'

i use outlook express and firefox. If i recall correctly the only time i've seen messages i've deleted come back is when something has corrupted my inbox on my hard drive and outlook express downloads allllll the messages again and it's like i've never read them, they are all bolded again. i am looking now, but i can't find it. I thought there was a setting that removed the messages from the server once they downloaded to your local hard drive.

i'm posting a picture of my outlook express window so you can see what mine looks like. but i'm also using an older version, it's version 6. click on the picture once, then when it opens click on it again and it will be large enough for you to read. you might try going to tools, options, click the maintenance tab, and then putting a check in that first box "empty messages from deleted folder."

hope that helps some.

(((((((Yes. that's what seems to have happened. But only since I went to Firefox. You know at top of messages there are three little symbols? dont know what they are. well the middle one is preceeding all the closed letter-symbols and some of the opened-latter symbols. All the closed letter-symbol text is in black text.

So will 'empty messages from deleted folder' only delete the closed-letter' emails? Because there ARE some messages I do want to keep that are open-letters and in lighter text.

/\ no empty messages from the deleted folder will delete all messages in that folder. if there are some you want to keep, may i ask why do you have them in the deleted folder? i would just move them back out to the inbox or create a new folder and put them there ;)

if it happens each time you open outlook express...it seems like something is corrupting your Inbox every time. you might try uninstalling firefox and seeing if outlook express returns to normal...if it does (i can't think of why) but i would go back to using internet explorer as your web browser instead of firefox.

"i'm posting a picture of my outlook express window so you can see what mine looks like."

I see that you actually have mail in you OE Inbox. So you have an OE email address? HOW?
I have my Hotmail configured and it works fine.
The only folder that operates in OE is the "sent messages".
Thanks,
LARRY
