For some weird reason a couple days ago, I started to get a rash, or something under my arm. It's in the armpit area. Oddly it's only one side though. Not sure if it's a zit but its spred under the hair of my armpit...Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

Have you changed soap or fabric softener? Are you exposed to chemicals at work?

I would recommend seeing a physician.

In the mean time keep it clean.

I had something of the same and it turned out I was allergic to the chemicals used to clean the shop uniforms.

I used hibiclens to keep it clean. It has some great anti-microbial properties. And if there is any odour, it eliminates it.

I buy the big bottle of hand sanitizer at Sam's Club and use it instead of deodorant and my rash cleared up. Works great on the foot mange too. It's all I use now.

If just a rash appearence, likely a contact dermatitis. If there is no pustule with it it may not be an infection. In using all laundry stuffs, find and use the unsented items, whether laundry detergent, fabric softener, etc. Just remember too, companies change formulas to their products all the time so what didn't give you a problem before could easily do so now. This is true with deorderants and you should only be using a deorderant, not an antipersperant- those clog pores and can set you up for all sorts of problems from blocked sebacus glands, sweat glands, etc. Can lead to infection.

The other thing to check is to see if you have any swollen glands under your arm, if so, are they tender, if so, this is an infection. The worry would be development of a cellulitis that can be pretty bad and is an infection of the skin itself. Another thing is fever.

If nothing but a rash, do as Looseliam suggested with the Hibiclens soap, it is a great antibacterial soap and keep the area clean. Don't use any deorderant for a few days and see if it clears.

If all this doesn't help, well, time to see your friendly doctor for an evaluation.

hmm....what to do......it might be the deodorant......hand sanitizer can help? who knew....

Wow. If the "Check Engine" light comes on in your car, are you going to try to make the light go off, or will you bring the car in to the mechanic to see what's going on?

I'm not suggesting that something horrible terrible is going on. It just amazes me the lengths people will go to avoid seeing a doc.

I went to the Doctor for the crap on my foot, even saw a Dermatologist. After a dozen perscriptions and over the counter ointments the hand sanitizer is the goop that worked. Spend a couple of dollars on a small bottle, try it for a week and see what happens. Maybe you can save a couple of hundred dollars or so.

I hate to be a bitch, but this can potentially be dangerous advice (I'm not saying that it necessarily IS in this case). However, unless you're willing to accept responsibility for something going terribly wrong during this proposed week-long trial, you really should not give this kind of advice.

I'm not even going to go into how one case of something allegedly happening is about the weakest kind of evidence there is. Experienced doctors scoff at huge, carefully-designed prospective trials that do not account for one little nuance or another. You could imagine what they would think of Xenos Morphe being cured by Purell.

many hospitals offer a free hotline where you can get medical advise. also i am sure if you searched the internet, you might get some good advise.

hey kevin, we all do not have medical insurance. in the past six months, i have cracked my ribs and broke 3 toes. if i went to the doctor for that, they would of given advise of what to do, but really could not do anything for me. i called a medical hotline and they were more then happy to tell me what i should do. and yes, my check engine light did go on. read my owners manual to help diagnosis it. turned out to be a loose gas cap.. cost me zero. a mechanic would have charged me. so there are alternatives for us who do not have money to throw around.

. I have an itchy redish rash with little bumps (the bumps are now in little patchs) that started in my left armpit. It continued for a few days before it spread to my right armpit. I have been using Cortizone to help the itching but usually it burns when I first apply it. (I think it burns because I have scratched it) It seems to be spreading slightly.

I also wanted to point out that I have had a cold throughout the time I have had this rash.
Also the rash seem to be only on the armpit area.

What can I use to treat something like this?
Is there something that could help flush out whatever toxins are causing this?

Rick M Rick:

Most likely, your rash is local irritation, not allergy. I often see it in areas where skin rubs against skin. Most of the time, antiperspirant plays little or no role.

My advice: apply 1% hydrocortisone (OTC) twice a day (ignore burning--it will subside.) Cover each time with moisture lotion (any.) If it's not gone in a wekk, see a doctor, but I bet you won't have to.

Best.

This is exactly what happened to me. I am just just getting over a cold as well. Where can I get this: 1% hydrocortisone (OTC)

just so all know, i am about to put my 3rd application of that stuffon, it is healing.....i am safe...:-)

The one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is Shingles. Its a painful rash, often with tiny blisters that is only on one side of the body in a very specific distribution. Its is caused by the chicken pox virus that goes into hiding in a nerve ganglion and later reactivates in life.

The hallmark is that it is usually very painful. So go see your doc if this persists.
