Stupid time killer poll.

When loading the dishwasher, do you put the points of the forks, knives, etc. (aka eating surfaces) down...with the handle end up...or another way?

Just curious.

When I'm visiting some people, I get yelled at for putting the points up. You'll cut someone's finger off. When I'm visiting others, I get yelled at for putting points down. They don't get clean that way.

So at home I just eat with my hands. ..|

Up.

I find when I put them pointing down, they don't always get cleaned properly.

i don't have a dishwasher

Either do I..Unless you count me ...

Sigh,,No Kris, they have to go down so you don't cut anyone..:p

We rarely use the dishwasher, but here's my general rule: forks and knives (especially steak knives and the like) handle up. Spoons ca go either way.

The main reason is that my partner has been known to just grab the utensils without paying attention (listening to MP3 player, daydreaming, whatever) so all pointy and sharp objects go IN the basket for his safety. Just simple common sense.

Down, of course.

I don't want to reach for a spoon and stab myself on some up-pointing knife!

I would wash dishes by hand. Well, I mostly cook for myself, so it's not a big problem.

If I do use the dishwasher, utensils point down, so that someone's hand won't touch the eating surface when putting them away and those forks and knives won't poke you. Also, I try to rinse out dirty stuff before putting it in the dishwasher (sticky plate, peanut butter/jam/jelly knife,...)

I'm in total agreement with you.

Myself, all items go into the dishwasher scrubbed. It's only purpose is sanitation.

I don't have a dishwasher, however when I put the knives and forks in the dishtray to dry I put them facing up.

None of the above. Our dishwashers have a seperate rack for silverware and they lie on their sides in slots.

I don't use dishwasher, but I let them dry in a tray inside. Points are always up. You cannot tell what's lurking on the bottom.

Except for knives---they lie benignly on the bottom.

I just throw them in. Some of them bounce out but I just leave them on the floor of the dishwasher.

When it is done then are all dry and sparkly and I put them away. I've never cut myself doing it.

I don't have one but when I domload one the dirty surfaces go up so the basket doesn't get in the way of the spray, also you can get more in as the working end of spoons and forks is bigger than the handle.

For those who really want to know how to do it http://video.about.com/housekeeping/How-to-Load-a-Dishwasher.htm I don't do Health and Safety, it is for idiots so my knives go blade up!

whatever way they land in the cutlery holder when i throw them in the dishwasher is usually the way they remain.
