As a little non-scientific add-on to the "Are You Packing Heat" thread, here's a little poll.

In the past twelve months, have you been the victim of a crime where a gun was present? Or have you prevented a crime, or protected yourself from attack, by using a gun?

Please note this is multiple choice - tick all that apply to you. Also note there are separate boxes for US and non-US responses.

Using a gun as part of military duty or as a police officer doesn't count - but please post the details if that's you!

And if you've had multiple incidents of any poll item in the past 12 months, please post the numbers so I can include them in our final tally.

never happened to me ever in my life and hopefully not but can't say the same thing for knives . i've been stabbed before by another kid in kindergarten with a pencil and have had a knife pulled out on me by an older person when i was a kid because i was bothering my then female neighbor with a stuffed animal. people are crazy.
 
No, but then again your bullets cannot harm me, my wings are like a shield of steel.
 
I have on more than one occasion...

Fortunately NOT in the last 12 months, unless you count law enforcement legally robbing me blind WHILE quivering behind their guns...
 
It's a shame you added "in the last 12 months." I've had a gun shoved in my gut by a gang member. I think the only reason I'm still amongst the living is because I backed down and his buddies talked him out of doing anything "stupid."

Thanks for being honest for the survey, however. In open surveys like the one, particularly when they relate to traumatic events like gun crime, people often forget (deliberately or on purpose) how long ago things happen, creating false positives called "telescoping".

Nothing recently.

I was robbed at knifepoint when I was in High School.

I was robbed at gunpoint while working in a retail store back in the mid 80's.
 
I didn't respond to the poll...

BUT...

I can give you ONE of the instances where I was confronting a GUN...

I was coming home from work -- and a guy jumped into my car after I had just put gas in it...

He held a GUN to my side and INSISTED that I drive to my house...

I DID JUST THAT...

He then slowly and methodically went through my home and took ALL of the VALUABLES -- including things that weren't that valuable -- but were valuable to ME...

THEN, he said he was going to have to kill me... :help:

I told him that I could give him MORE -- IF he waited until tomorrow morning when the banks opened up -- and said I could PROVE it with bank statements and stock certificates...

He ALLOWED ME to go INTO MY CLOSET where my safe was to present the documents...

At THAT MOMENT while I was pulling out financial stuff -- I WISHED that I STILL HAD my 9mm SIG SAUER (which I HAD kept in the SAME safe with the documents)... ](*,)

I SWEAR to you that I would have pulled it out and KILLED him... :grrr:

But..

I had sold it a few months earlier -- and all I had was my wits...

He took what VALUABLES I had, plus wallet, credit cards, etc -- AND took my car PROMISING to be BACK in the morning for the BIG HAUL...

And LEFT...

WITH a LOT of THREATS to NOT call the COPS...

I called my nephew to come and get me -- AND the COPS...

I spent the next several nights at my brothers house -- and after several interviews with the cops...

BELIEVE IT OR NOT...

They ACTUALLY CAUGHT the MOTHER FUCKER!!! ..|

He was wanted for MURDER in Chicago!!! :eek:

AND -- RECOVERED my CAR!!!

Although -- everything else was gone...

I'm pretty lucky to have survived the night according to the detectives...

And I NEVER want to be WITHOUT a GUN again...

I know this sounds melodramatic....

AND -- I know I made MISTAKES to BEGIN with --- but this REALLY happened -- and I guess I'm glad it all turned out the way it did...

I'm not the kind of guy that actually wants to KILL someone...

REGARDLESS of the circumstances...

Wow, that had to have been a terrifying experience for you. And there's no telling how many people have been murdered under similar circumstances who could have killed the robber instead, if only they had a gun. As people who commit that type of crime are typically on drugs at the time, or have a below average IQ, and thus are subject to do stupid things. Such as trusting a meek acting, cooperative victim to reach in a closet for some money hidden in clothing, only to get a bullet in the forehead when the victim turns back around.
 
No,on either count ..Not in the last 12 months anyways..But I've had 2 guns pulled on me -not counting the other 2 times cops pulled them on me..(Once when they pulled me over in a cab that had been stolen and then recovered and was still on the hot sheet,and another time during a dispute with another trucker in West Virginia.)

Yes,years ago,I believe I stopped myself from getting robbed or assaulted one night in my cab..After Leroy had proclaimed that he should just pull out his Glock and ''just take my shit''- I rammed the .380 I kept in the car right into his ribs and reminded him he is a black guy in Utah and that I would leave his spleen on the the passenger door..

He got smart real quick and asked me if he could just get the fuck out of my cab..I told him I thought that would be a good idea..

Surprisingly, it was NOT terrifying WHILE it was happening -- I somehow kept a very cool head...

YES -- the guy was OBVIOUSLY on some sort of drugs -- and his erratic behavior combined with him holding the gun was of GREAT concern...

AFTER it was over -- was when I fell apart...
