This might've been posted before, I'm just too lazy to look.

If there was a drug you could take to forget parts of your past, would you take it?

That's an iffy question. I'm of two minds about it.

a) Our pain and past experiences are part of who we are (but I don't exactly like being socially inept, very introverted, shy, somewhat scared of people..)
b) Sometimes it just gets so painful that I'd do anything just to forget.

So I'd have to go with yes.

complicated question

I value my life experiences

i also take medication to controll PTSD symtoms that manifest as invasive and overpowering memories

lessening the pain so that they can be dealt with is the best option, not getting rid of them entirely

No I wouldn't - knowing and learning from my past, helps me to avoid difficult situations now, and should such a situation arise I know how to handle it.

I agree with the point Andreus has made - medication to dull the pain and to help you overcome it is by far the better option in my opinion.

That would be a good idea (for me), but as I don't have PTSD (just a mood disorder), I don't think such a drug exists.

This is a good point too - if we don't know what our mistakes are, we can't avoid them in the future. I guess it's more of a difficult question than I originally thought.

I already have hundreds, maybe even thousands of times now.

I already have hundreds, maybe even thousands of times now.

Nametaken - I know what a struggle you are going through at the moment - and having taken a fair amount of drugs in my time, the come down from these temporary measures only seem to highlight the reasons behind your problems. Have you thought of seeing a drug councillor - you can get help on the N.H.S. I have a few friends that have managed to stay clean by facing up to their demons. Going cold turkey alone without help may not be enough.

I already have started self rtioning myself. I think I've staretd doing well on my own and I really think seeing a ocunclior at this point would hurt a helluva lot mre than it would help.

Forget the past - Permanently???
Alzheimer's in a pill? No, thanks...

Forget the past - Temporarily???
Why yes, I'd love a cocktail...

How can you learn from your mistakes if you don't know you made them?

I value the mistakes, they are part of who I am.If I am to learn I must remember

Oh goodness..if I did that, very very traumatic memories would resurface.

..I take enough drugs as it is, anyway ..so it doesnt make a difference to me!  :-<

But I wouldnt, no.

I do not want to forget my past. I did a lot of bad stuff and it was all for drug use and sales, I even went to jail for it.

A Pill to make you numb

A pill to make you dumb

A Pill to make anybody else

But all the drugs in this world

Won't save us from ourselves.

Soilwork: Very poetic, but also very true.

Thank Marilyn Manson.. that's the song Coma White from his epic "Mechanical Animals" album (which if you haven't heard it is one of the best albums of the 90s).

Hmm. If one forgets something that happened in the past, why can't one retain what one had learned?

I find I forget why I do some things. Others I don't want to remember why I do some things.

no...it's through pain and suffering that we find the dark side and the true power of the force!

er.....

let me try this again! :)

Seriously, it's through the pain and suffering that we suffer that we become the person we are. Without it...were nothing. Just a bag of water in a skin suit!
