Shows you what a sham the porn industry is regarding safety. Jasun touted this place as state of the art and it can't even qualify for a clinic license. Incredible!

aagold76 - if that's you in your avatar......... YUMMMMMMMMMMM

Why would a clinic lose it's license for someone turing HIV positive?
There clearly has to be a lot more to this story.

Exactly ... it certainly sounds as though there is more to this story of the clinic losing its license than we are being told.

Burts told the newspaper that he may have contracted the disease during a gay film shoot in Florida, during which time performers used condoms during intercourse but not during oral sex.

"It's very dangerous," he told the Times. "It should be required that you wear a condom on the set."

A month after being diagnosed, the clinic claimed in a statement that Zeta had contracted the HIV virus "through private, personal activity."

Burts told the Times that this was "completely false" as he had only ever slept with his girlfriend in his personal life and that she tested negative for the disease.

He also took issue with the fact that the clinic reportedly did not arrange for follow-up care and told him not to contact the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which he did anyway.

The actor reportedly identified himself as Patient Zeta to the group last week and said he wanted to speak out in favor of enforcing mandatory condom use on adult film sets.

"Making $10,000 or $15,000 for porn isn't worth your life,” he told the Times. "Performers need to be educated."

The AIM clinic was created in the 1980s to provide STD testing for adult performers. It provides a service to the performers, and the porn studios. This year they are part of the political "battle" in California whether porn studios should be required to use condoms during the production of porn. While it's not the only place to get STD testing, it may be that porn producers will only accept results from the AIM clinic (or its subcontractors).

The AIM clinic was sued this last summer by one if its clients. Her complaint was that Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation gives all of the porn studios access to the results of her tests for sexually transmitted diseases - a privacy violation. Subsequently, HHS started investigating AIM related to privacy of medical information. See this article: Feds Investigate LA Porn Industry Testing Clinic

And for a different perspective on what's happening this week (This is from AVN - the Adult Entertainment Industry News.) AIM Office To Reopen Tomorrow During Dispute With Health Dept. - L.A. County Health illegally tried to close them down, but they're open
The article claims that the only problem is the name of the organization is incorrect on the license application.

It's a little hard to tell who is telling the truth given all of the current conflicting reports - everyone seems to have an axe to grind.

I'm sorry, I can't find that post. Where did I call it "state of the art?"

What I HAVE said is that the AIM Clinic has been at the forefront of getting access to the best and most accurate testing for adult performers and has been excellent at getting them information on how to protect themselves.

The AIM Clinic also has helped us keep track of who's been tested, who they've worked with and on the rare occasion that there's been a positive test, they've contacted performers who have possibly been exposed.

The Clinic was shut down not because they're a "sham" as you say, but because of political bullying from the rather sex-phobic AHF. It'll most likely open back up soon.

Which is good. The AIM Clinic has been where we get our models tested to make sure that they're not going to pass anything on to their scene partners.

Or... did you have a better idea?

Working in the industry, we NEED to have proper and uniform testing information.

You can't just... show up at the studio with a note from your doctor.

We need you to go to an approved testing location and then WE go to their website, download your test results and share them with your scene partner. They're coupled with copies of your ID so we know you didn't send your friend down to be tested in your place. The tests have a day and date on them and they don't use the less-accurate HIV tests that you can get for free down at the Gay and Lesbian center... they use the much more accurate and more expensive high-end testing.

It's a system that works. Well.

I mean... it's a system that found this young man was HIV+ and was able to stop him from working, thus stopping him from passing on HIV to his scene partners (and contacted anyone he'd worked with since his last negative test)

Thanks to this system, nobody other than Derrick was infected (and where/how he was infected is up for debate but was most likely NOT on a porn set but in his work as an escort or just his private life).

But... some of you think they should be closed down for that?

How about you stop the stupid barebacking? Oh, yeah, you don't want to give up the money you think you'd lose. (Now come up with some lame propaganda about how "It's not about the money")

Um... we did stop shooting bareback.

Where have you been?

(and by the way... if he DID become infected while shooting gay porn like he says... it was in a condom scene. So... um... what were you saying?)

By the way... we will allow models to ask for AIM testing even if they're using condoms. Some prefer the extra level of protection.

So... maybe you can explain why you're rejoicing that's been taken away from them?

Don't you care about the safety of the models?

Jasun, I didn't know you stopped the barebacking. Now, while I swallow this bigass crow, let me say that I admire you guys doing that and I now have a great deal of respect for you. Peace.

To be fair, we didn't make a big deal out of it. We didn't do it for press, we did it for a few reasons... one of which, I'll admit, was that some of the bigger-name models that we wanted to work with were reticent to work for a studio that does gay bareback titles.

So it was a bit self-serving, I guess. Now that Cocksure Men is becoming a major gay porn site, we want to work with the major gay porn stars.

We're still up in the air about straight scenes. We're shooting with condoms at the moment although now that we're working with a lot of people from the straight industry... they'd mostly rather do AIM testing and not use condoms. We'll see where that goes. We're aware of the odd message that "straight sex is safe, gay isn't" that some people might get from that. It's a very odd position in which we've found ourselves.

But yeah.... we haven't shot a gay bareback scene for months.

Peace Yourself.

It is true that vaginal intercourse is much safer than anal, by a factor in the tens. That's why the perception is that straight sex is safe in porn. Straight sex with anal intercourse is the same as gay anal sex. One major problem with porn is that the numbers of exposures with different partners can overwhelm the other relative risks. It's often very difficult for non-medical people to understand that all risks are relative.Your strategy of layers of safety precautions is the best one. Testing and condoms. One problem with condoms is that they break.
Also, many studies have shown preliminary results one way, based on the testimony of HIV patients, only to reverse when investigation reveals that they falsified information about their sexual activity. Kinda like asking an alcoholic how much he drinks. Don't rely on a model's word.

Lastly, one of my reasons to hate barebacking in porn is that if and when the public finds out that, after all the tax dollars spent on HIV, and after all those arguments by gays that HIV "isn't their fault", gays "just wanted sex to be more fun" and that they never felt that serious about it. (That last sentence is about taxpayers' perception not about the reality)

well, I'll tell you...

I was talking to a guy who works for one of the major DVD studios. They had done a group sex scene with a bunch of men... all were HIV+ but they used condoms for the scene. He said he felt silly doing it because all men had had sex without condoms OFF camera with each other... but for the video itself, they had to use condoms for what he called "political reasons."

I gave him a hug and told him just how much I understand how bizarre our industry can be from time to time.
