The husbands of yesteryear were the family disciplinarian and apparently, this extended to the wife as well. This booklet discusses why husbands should employ the 'manly art' of wife beating as a way to maintain the upper hand in the marriage, as a way to show his wife who is in charge, and as a way to show the children that men are dominant. It is scary to think how many of these booklets were sold.
