No, the difference between you and me is that I do not pretend to be correct. I just point out what we both know... and you pretend that didn't exist. One can see you are not American black, or belong to an Asian or African country having been part of an "empire" back in the 1920s LOL. At least, today's "innocent victims" can get some pity on the net, or even be made heroes in asome "inspiring" movie, while in the golden 1920s you would just rot in your own disgrace Ha.

You can live today as "innocently" and safely as in the 1920s... provided you care to set in the real world the same cozy corner that you prefer to concoct in your own head LOL.

Today is more "terrible" than the 1920s, like the 1920s were far more horrible, dirty and violent than the 1900s or the 1880s, which were less rosy than centuries before... as long as you kept avoiding human company and, most importantly, taking refuge in nostalgic fancies of eras you only actually know by hearsay at best, or by mere assumptions.

1- You are just agreeing with me that what you complain about today already existed back in 1920 but, sure, machine guns just were not as violent as the last shout in weapons of 2021 LOL.

2- Violence, machine guns and all, were not reduced to Chicago's downtown and, please "innocent people" have been continuously murdered over nothing, before like after the 1920s... even under the cover of the law.

Now I will provide you with some of the feeble arguments to support your feeble case that you seem to find to hard to find, when you have them right on your nose, you lecturer in history:

1- Everything about which one can complain about today already existed back in the 1920s, but since everything was so comparatively downsized (the population, the economy, crime...) one can fancy the bigger picture was rosier... even if people were just as "innocent" or as miserable and as criminal as they are today, on a closer view.

2- In the 1920s, you could have your front doors open in the USA, just as if it were modern Finland or Japan...

just as you can to today... just like today, like in the 1920s, you could get robbed and even murdered, with or without your front doors locked.

All of which leads us back to the same: it all depends on what you want to ignore, and on what you want to focus... and since the population in the USA was one third the less, one can easily assume everything was two thirds rosier HAHA.

If I were to dream of more "innocent and sweet" eras, I would dream of XVIIIth century France before the Revolution... when the wars were being fought overseas... as long as I kept ignoring reminders like Voltaire's "Candide"... or a mere walk in the streets of Paris at night.

But you know what: I still prefer to be living in 2021, with a better social (and that includes crie and safety rates), medical and economic system than in the 1920s... or in the years to come, when all this will have crumbled. Unlike you, I am enjoying it while it lasts.

There is more "sweetness and innocence" in a guy touring the world in his wheelchair in the 2000s than in all the 1920s inside your own head.

Maybe you need to drink a glass of water, belamo...

You mean dip my fingerstips.

Do not worry... I type those lines by the hour, not by the second...

I think we agree that, though we weren't born in the EXACT year that we may have wished,, it's VERY CLOSE. It looks like we both agree about that, belamo.

In the 1920s, there were NO antibiotics of any kind. I'm not even sure if penicillin was available yet. Cancer was almost unconditionally a death sentence. If I had been alive in 1920, I've already had a cancer that would have killed me, AND a dental infection that would have probably kept spreading and gone on to kill me. Successful treatments are NOT guaranteed, but there's been serious progress that's been made in the century since 1921. Surgery was available already (with greater risk of infections), but chemotherapy and radiation treatments didn't exist yet. I would have been one of the many people who never managed to live until 60.

I'VE ALREADY SAID MANY TIMES that I wouldn't have wanted to have been born any LATER than I was (1947). Even by 1973 or 1974, I was starting to feel a little bit wary that I could see the failure of the United States in my lifetime.

I've often wished maybe I had been born in 1939 or 1940...though wishing more like 1941 or 1942 has been more common.

I could have been born at any time in human history, and I missed the ideal time by perhaps six years. THAT is very close, INSIDE the bulls-eye, I'd say.

I was born in 1950. My teens and twenties perfectly matched up with the CRAZY 60s and 70s. "Free Love", "Flower Power", and all that hippie stuff helped offset all the bad stuff. :rainfro:

The last 5 years have been some of the Worst! Luckily, we're clawing our ways out of that clusterfuck. :gogirl: :goodluck
