That seems to miss a couple of glaring facts. The rich create white collar criminal punishments that are less punitive than the guy who robs the convenience store. And, if you think poor people don't believe in punishment, try stealing from one of them and getting caught. In the third world, mob justice kills for petty crimes.

What I love is not only how ancient street performances are, but how fundamental the elements of entertainment are.
When I was on a training trip to San Francisco back in the early 90's, I stayed on Fisherman's Wharf, and on Sunday afternoon at Ghirardelli Square there were a pair of comic jugglers who had an excellent routine. I still remember leaving a $20 tip way back then in appreciation for the show.

Two nights ago I cried myself to sleep after calling to check on my 100 year + aunt because she is winding down and won't be with us much longer.
And of course, as I said to my partner, I am the one always reminding us that death comes for us all eventually and we can't change that.
But what I realized in my sadness, is that I am not crying about her impending end...I am weeping because she is the last direct living link to so many times and places and people
we can never re-visit or even really recapture without first person memories of them...
