I remember my father saying that to the dealer when my parents got the last family car.

Interestingly, though, he forgot this a few years later when he bought a personal car. That car was, my mother thought, a midlife crisis car.

This is the car for engine size queens. John Dodds built himself this plaything around a Rolls Royce Merlin engine, as fitted to the heroic Spitfire warplane.
27 litres V12 developing 750 horse power without the supercharger, which they had to remove to get it to fit.
It will easily sail past 200 mph, he never found out just how fast it would go as the tyres would not be able to cope with much more speed.
Driven hard, it only returns about 6 miles to the gallon so it's a rich mans toy. I Iike the colour if nothing else.

Yes, quad headlamps were all the rage for 1957 and as a result 1957 new four-headlight models (available in September 1956) were in violation of automotive equipment laws in eleven states. Those eleven states banned headlamp systems greater than two headlights.

The Eldorado Brougham was notable for its standard air suspension and stainless steel roof.

The 1956 Motorama Eldorado Town Car was found intact in a wrecking yard, disobeying orders from GM to destroy all show cars - right down to the tires!

That John was able to place an aircraft engine on a car chassis is amazing. But to have buit the rest of the car himself is astounding!
