Potential

He liked Letisha. She was a great Lab partner and developing into an even better friend. No he wasn’t about to “switch” sides – she was a friend not someone he was interested in going into a relationship with. Without Paul around it was safe having a female friend and many times better than starting up something that would prove to be false.

Scott was different. Alex had been aware of Scott from the beginning and found it difficult to figure out how this friendship was developing. The off putting thing about Scott was simply that he reminded Alex too much of Paul. Scott had complicated things further by inviting Alex to a few functions! Alex had not accepted of course and in the back of his head there was an idea that perhaps Scott was hoping to be more then the friendly person he already was.

In the Gym that afternoon the team was divided into the Probables and the Possibles. The first five, meaning the starting five were the Probables whilst the bench players were the Possibles. Alex was a Possible. The coaches put the teams through a series of offensive and defensive drills followed by a scrimmage session. Alex was matched up against the team’s starting point guard Sam. Truth be known it wasn’t really a match up – it was more a mismatch as Sam asserted his superiority and greater experience. On his own team was Jack a third year swing guard who was first off the bench as a sub in games. Jack was a very competent player but as far as Alex was concerned either never p[assed him the ball when he was free or passed it a second too late or even in a position too high or too low making Alex’s movements seem cumbersome. Alex thought the problem didn’t exist for the other players and that maybe he needed to develop more as a player. There were moments where Alex proved his worth and overall the session was one where his muscles burned and ached to his immense satisfaction.

After training Alex would often hang around for another hour or so shooting and doing a series of private training drills - on some occasions one of the assistant coaches would help out. Alex liked Assistant Coach Brown and really enjoyed his coaching methods. Coach Brown had developed a dossier of attributes on every player and took the time to help the players develop their skills. It was Coach Brown who found Alex’s exceptional ability to use his hands. He devised programs to develop related skills turning an asset into a weapon. Alex’s brilliance with his hands would in time become exceptional where his clever and accurate passing skills would become sublime and defensively his ability to strike at the ball with speed would leave the best of players surprised. Alex’s hands were to become lethal on the basketball court.

Afterwards in the showers as Alex soaped himself he had a feeling someone was there. Eyes alert despite his casual demeanour, Alex could not see or hear anything! Was someone there? Were they spying on him? He was not afraid physically!

It was uncanny how so many people reminded him of Paul. Scott his Chemistry Lab partner, his Chemistry Lecturer and even Assistant Coach Brown were all guys who reminded him of Paul. At night alone in his room Alex would sometimes relieve his pent up physical frustration by turning on his computer and bringing up pictures of Paul and him together – particularly some taken whilst up at the lake in very revealing poses. He had tried to catch Paul on msn and in chat rooms without success.

In a particular chat room he had come across a guy calling himself ozboi19. It was comforting to chat to someone who was removed from his situation and from the other side of the world (Australia). That night ozboi19 happened to be on msn and his friendly “Hi” popped up as soon as Alex logged on. The usual “how u doin”, “what u up to?” out of the way ozboi19 identified himself as Jason a student from Australia and surprised Alex by sending his webcam. “OMG” typed Alex “you look so much like a friend of mine – Paul”!

Oh Oh! Is this really Paul going by another name? Like I said before, I secretly hope Paul comes back to fit into the story.

Michael, do you play basketball yourself? You write very descriptively of it. Glad to see more of the story unfolding.

No i am in the SLSC movement - Surf Life Saving Club - i do volunteer patrols on weekends - think speedos, surf, sand, etc. I played tennis and soccer. I picked up the basketball stuff by listening to commentators and shaped what i write through experiiences in soccer. If it sounds good then kool - i'm happy. A true basketball guy would pick holes in it i think - i chose basketball because the audience seems to be more american and you would relate to it better than cricket!
thanks for the comment.

Um ... I guess you would know it's beena long time since i wrote and continued the story of Alex and Paul

Basically it's because my son has been seriously ill - he was not able to eat for 8 months, got down to 35 kg (70 lbs) and at age 16 was so thin it was touch and go - thankfully after 4 ops he's improving and out of danger. The hospital is in sydney 4 hours away so this has been the major part of life for months. I'll post some more of this story soon. Cheers everyone.

Michael,

I so sorry to hear about your sons illness. Thankfully he is better now! It is really good to hear from you again and I look forward to your continuing your story.

wow. I just finished reading the entire story and I've got to say way to go. It is an emotional roller coaster. I hope Paul comes back. If not then I hope Alex finds someone better and rubs it in Paul's face.

Also I'm glad your son is doing better and remember your family always comes first.

The first match of the season arrived with the off court events and crazy hype rivalling the game itself. The match itself went well with a good win to the Rattlers even though Alex did not get any court time. Later that evening at the official team celebration Alex was surrounded by his Paul lookalikes Scott, Coach Brown and his Chemistry Teacher. The effect was surreal if not un-nerving! Individually he liked them all but to be surrounded by them all at once and to be so reminded of Paul was enough to be outside his comfort zone.

As soon as he could Alex made a quiet exit for the safety of his room. He logged onto his computer to find his other Paul – albeit Jason on line. It was good to talk online to Jason and in a sense Alex was able to unburden and say things he would not always be able to say face to face.
One particular day the chemistry practical did not go exactly to plan and both Scott and Alex were given an extension of time. Working late that evening Alex felt the close proximity and then the heat emanating from Scott’s body brushing up close to his own as they both peered intently at a series of test tubes. Alex’s body soaked up the tension of the moment as he tried to nonchalantly continue with his work. Scott’s left hand moved from the desk to his side brushing past Alex’s body and in particular past his partially swollen penis. There was no mistaking the intent when Scott’s hand moved back to the desk brushing Alex’s penis again. Alex turned peering into Scott’s warm brown eyes locked into his soul seeing the longing inside. Both made fumbling embarrassed movements then settled for the few minutes it took to complete and clean up the task.
The sky was already becoming dark as they left the Science building together. Unsaid words echoed inside not one but two heads as both blurted simultaneously –
“What are you doing for dinner?” said Scott.
“Should we get a snack somewhere?” said Alex.
They laughed out of relief at the incongruity of silence followed by a simultaneous explosion of conversation.
“Look I’m sorry about what happened back there!” exclaimed Scott.
Alex replied with “No, no it’s ok – just a little embarrassing.”
Then followed up with “look, I’m not promising anything but can we at least get something to eat – maybe we’ll take things from there and maybe not – at least we can be friends.”
Alex apprehensively stepped into Scott’s room fully aware of what was very likely to happen. Scott quietly closed the door, turned to see Alex standing in the middle of the room, walked to sit on the edge of his bed and placed his hand as an invitation to where Alex should sit.
Alex sat next to Scott and allowed him to begin. First Scott started gently touching and unbuttoned Alex’s shirt, peeling it off to reveal the splendour of his torso. Scott’s breathing intensified as he kissed Alex’s body gently and licked at his nipples. Alex stood up in front of him as Scott fumbled with his belt then his zipper and hurried his jeans down his slim hips to the floor quickly followed by briefs. In seconds Alex’s dick was in Scott’s mouth being swallowed whole. Alex closed his eyes and thought warmly of Paul before snapping out of his daydream – no this is Scott not Paul he reminded himself. Scott was good at what he was doing soon bringing Alex to the point where he knew he would blow. He tried taking his cock out of Scott’s mouth but Scott eagerly sucked harder making Alex orgasm sending his seed down his greedy throat.
Strangely Alex felt somewhat guilty. He didn’t love Scott and although Scott was good and physically he was sated the emotional detachment of their act was something Alex had never felt before. When he was with Paul he was in love and felt the anguish of wanting to please him more than anything the world could offer. This was different, sure it was a sexual act but it didn’t have the emotional attachment he needed. For most of his life he had been detached but now because he had loved someone fully and truly he needed the security of someone he trusted and loved.
He needed Paul.

Well lets hope he gets Paul. I'm so glad to have found this story. It along with the few stories I comment on is one of the best up here.

I'm glad Alex has been able to have some needed release and Scott seems like a very nice guy, however, I am also very happy to know that Alex still is true to his love for Paul. He does need Paul now....

So happy to have you back, Michael.

Coach Brown continued to work with Alex, this, combined with the challenge of lining up against the Rattlers starting point guard Sam at training drills was bringing Alex’s game along with rapid improvement. Where Sam was once too strong and experienced with superior skills he was finding the match up far more even and both players were benefiting from the experience. Coach Brown changed Alex’s defensive stance by transferring more weight onto his toes creating a minimal change in balance but one that was sufficient to make change of direction more dynamic and add even more speed to his lightning reflexes. Subtle changes like that, greater familiarity with team plays and Alex’s own training program of ball control exercises, fitness drills and practice shooting 200 baskets a day were evolving his game and lifting his skill level and quality of execution - a fact not lost on Coach Anderson. Playing with Jack as a team mate had not improved.

It was in game 5 of the season that Alex finally got some court time. The Rattlers were in an even defensive game that was tending to become a dour struggle so Coach Anderson decided to throw him in as a wild card to see if a change up would breathe some fresh air into the game. He called Alex from the end of the bench and gave him instructions before calling the switch subbing him on to play the 3 spot.

Does History repeat? If so then it did at that moment. Alex became the game breaker - two spectacular blocks, 3 assists, 6 points, 3 rebounds, one steal and one intercept in the space of 4 minutes. Back on the bench after his brief but explosive time in the game Alex’s heart still pumped hard as the adrenalin continued to rush through his body. He had turned the game becoming the catalyst for the team’s 5th win of the season and established himself as a player of the future. Sam the starting point guard was clearly delighted and made sure Alex knew it.

The Rattler’s 6th game was against a lower ranked team for which game Sam sat out resting a slight muscle strain. Jack took the point, however, when Alex subbed into the game the magic of the previous outing was missing. It was not for want of trying and defensively his game was excellent. His offensive game was lacking it’s punch. Coach Anderson rotated players, searching for the spark, relegating Jack to bench and changing Alex to 2 and suddenly the game jolted to become lively. It seemed the Jack/Alex combination was not ideal.

Game 7 was against State University at State! Paul! Alex was so excited. He left emails and MSN messages giving all the details he could muster. Seeing Paul and spending some time together was all he could think about during his spare time. He longed to be alone with Paul, to be held in his arms, to take in his delicious scent, to feel the warmth of his golden skin and bask in the glow of his radiant smile.

On the bus en route to State University Alex leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes and gloriously allowed his mind to flood with images of Paul. Delicious thoughts broken as the bus pulled into the State University Complex and pushed to the back of his mind so that he could concentrate on game preparation. There would be time for those thoughts later since Paul would be there and they would spend some time together.

Great to see Alex is going to be with Paul once again. There has been too long a separation. Glad to see the updates to a wonderful story.

What a taught story! suspense! You create such an enormous positive image for Alex and then it all comes crashing down in some ridiculous nonsense created by ... his father???:( My heart actually aches tonight as I see him curled up in a foetal position rejected brutally from playing in possibly the most important game of the season ... I keep looking at my chest to see if I am bleeding through my shirt ... Oh my aching heart ...
