some the same person that decried violence in other religions

seems to be concentrating on the speck in other people's eyes

ignoring the log in his own

I think that the pope protests waaaaayyyy too much....

Could he be a closeted self hating homo himself?

He whines about gay people as much as Fred Phelps.

The Pope does more harm than good to society....

It's too bad we can't put him in the loony bin for pushing his insane destructive agenda.

It is too bad that we can't get some of that evidence that they have locked up in the Vatican to prove that the whole organized religion thing is a complete sham.

What did you expect the Pope to say about gay marriage? What would be shocking is if he embraced it.

I wonder why the Pope feels the need to bash gay people so often? Could it have something to do with belittling a minority group of people that are forced to question the assumptions that are given to them from birth. Those organized religions, they don't like people to question things. They just expect people to just accept them as blind faith.

Behind the scenes....
"See...it's in this book...therefore it is true."
"God spoke to me...not you."
"I'm frickin powerful...so you must believe it."
"We got millions of people believing this stuff...haha...lets see how far we can manipulate them."
"We must make them more fearful...they give more money when they do."

It wouldn't surprise me if one day the church does decide to support gay marriage. Society is becoming more liberal, younger generations of people no longer turn to religion as much as we used to, and church attendance is falling. The catholic religion is already thought to be antiquated by many, think how it'll be presented in 50 years. It'll have to modernize to keep attracting followers.

It's not that he said it, we expect this level of hate. It's when he said it, during a Christmas address. With everything going on in the world, THIS is what he is focusing on?

Plus, I don't think someone who frets about Prada should be lecturing anybody about "masculinity and femininity of the human being"

He decided to say it NOW because in Italy the government is going to write a law that allows gay marriages soon (hopefully)

By that time, Betazoids will be marrying Klingons — but they'd have to be straight.

Jeez, what a thought. A gay Klingon.
I had suspicions that Alexander Rozhenko swung for the other team.

I have just put down the phone from talking with a Italian gay political activist friend, at Bologna University. He is very happy with The Pope's speech. Unwittingly, The Pope is doing a splendid job of ensuring that more pressure is placed on Italian politicians in the governing party, to ensure that legislation is enacted on the matter of "marriage" rights for the homosexual person. The Pope's speech will guarantee more support for gay rights. The Italian political scene is rather complex. Our Italian friend NicoNico has made this point, in order for our American friends to appreciate that Italy does not operate on the same political lines as the United States.

We should appreciate that the UK and Europe does not suffer anything like the same level of Christian fundamentalist actions, that are so discriminatory and hostile to gays in the United States.

If the Prada company offered me a free pair of their slippers, I would also accept their generous gift. The Pope clearly has good taste in accepting gifts, that are practical and comfortable for his feet.

Clearly unknown to you my friend, apart from local, state and federal agencies, the largest provider of welfare aid to the under privileged and marginalised in the United States are agencies of the Catholic Church. This is also to appreciate that other Christian churches and other religious organisations, also provide similar aid to those in need.

I have volunteered in soup kitchens here in Athens, providing care, clothes and food to the many thousands of people who use Athens en route to other countries in Europe. Literally these people arrive in Greece, only with the clothes they are standing in. No money. No shelter. No food. The Greek state does precious little. The Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church use their funds and their muscle to help those in dire need. I am a working witness to this fact of life. Most of these people are Muslims.

On the contrary I have read your offerings and feel obliged to remain silent, as a result of my own experiences revealing another reality that is not in tune with your own.

I note your opinions with respect, for clearly I have not shared in your dreadful experiences.

Oh come on, what do you expect from one of Hitler's Youth all grown up - hardly the Brady Bunch were they?

The German Shepherd has spoken eh !!! Bugger him.

He demands the freedom to deny others their freedom and rights.

Isn't that just a bit strange???

It doesn't make sense to me that most of the people who replied to this post are acting with the same ignorance this post is about. Not everyone has the same morals and beliefs we do, out of all people we should be accepting of differences in others. I know we are the subject of intolerance and bashing by others, retaliating by bashing them does absolutely no good. All that being said, the Church needs to realize that they do not practice what they teach, that God loves everyone equally and we are all made in his image. (*8*)

i.e, ein Reich, ein Volk, ein Pope?

Clearly the children are in a grotesque, playful frame of mind today. It must be baiting time, since Christmas and good will are around the corner. :D

...I've still yet to hear ANY compelling reason(s) HOW same-sex marriage will deSTROY utterly, straight marriage....

I asked this exact same question in one of the other threads on this topic. Every time somebody trots out this assinine statement that gay marriage is a threat to the institution of marriage, I just get so pissed off I want to strangle someone! How in the fuck is me being in a committed, recognized relationship to another person possibly any threat to anyone? ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

When the Pope says something is not really only about religion, it's more about politics, since in Italy a lot of political parties have the support of the Vatican.
In Spain (where they are as catholic as "us") gay people can get married and adopt babies, just because the Spanish government simply don't give a shit about The Vatican...
I'm planning to move to Canada to have a Family!(!)
good night!

So basically we should just sit and take it? I'm sick to the back teeth of listening to his shit and been told by so called gay Christians to shut the fuck up!! The church is NOT beyond criticism, even if it thinks that it is.

Not everyone has the same morals we do.......fair comment but not everyone has the same morals as the high and mighty pope! And it is every week, if not him then it's another religion that's taking pot shots.

The day the church realises that we are all equal will never come. Homosexuality is the only thing left that is easy target to bash and no one but us cares!

It seems to me that only a few of us seem to gives two shits. The rest seem all to happy being led by their leashes...
