Prepping for Pride Month

Yes, and Montreal's Pride celebration is the second weekend in August. The last weekend in June either is or is very close to the Feast of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of Quebec, and so it's treated as the province's own version of Canada Day or July 4. The ones who want to secede from Canada have a massive march.

And the Pride continues!

Next Thursday is the rescheduled Haddon Township Pride parade and after party in Westmont, NJ. It was rescheduled due to the smog from forest fires last June. The weather looks better. Friday there's a community night at Haddon Square.
I like Haddon Township; it's traditionally been the "wet" community for neighboring "dry" Haddonfield and Collingswood, with restaurants and bars aplenty.

And returning after a hiatus is Philadelphia's block party for National Coming Out Day. This year there will be a new parade Saturday, Oct. 7. The block party is Sunday, Oct. 8. It hadn't been held due to COVID and organizational issues. In the past, it was the largest such event in the USA, and I believe it will return in full force.

Last night was Haddon Township Pride's parade on Haddon Avenue in Westmont, NJ.
I got off the Speed Line train at Westmont station, and was early enough to enjoy a mushroom cheeseburger at Haddon Diner. Then I walked a few blocks to the parade start.
Lots of kids! Lots of flags of all the LGBT varieties! Strollers. Dogs.
I'm not posting pics because of all the kids.

The parade kicked off at 6:10 pm with a Haddon Township police car and the Haddon Township High School band.
Lots of school groups. Educators. Local businesses, especially realtors and dance studios.
Some corporate presence. Cooper Health, Bank of America, Target, Subaru, and Campbell's.
Girl Scouts!
Lots of giveaways! Candy. Rainbow wristbands. Flags. A whistle from the Coast Guard!
My favorite gifts: cool rainbow sunglasses from Suburu. And from the NFL's "Football Is For Everyone," a rainbow mini football and a great hat. Pics to follow.
It ended with Westmont fire trucks.
There was a very crowded after-party at Haddon Square with vendors and a DJ.
It was BY FAR the most family-friendly LGBT event I've ever attended. And it gives me hope that while some states are restricting LGBT presence, many South Jersey parents are taking their kids to Pride.
Maybe one little drawback. Despite pleasant temperatures, the 6 PM parade start meant sunset. So no hot shirtless men at all. (Hot fully dressed men, yes.)

It wouldn't be Pride without a religious protester. They had two, who were pretty much ignored. Heck, there were more church groups in the parade.

Today was OURfest, the block party for National Coming Out Day in Philadelphia's Gayborhood. There was a parade yesterday but rain threatened and I didn't go.

This was a far more adult affair. There was a kids' zone but not many kids.
Lots of community organizations, businesses, food trucks, craft, art, jewelry, and LGBT-stuff vendors.
It was busy but jam-packed only at certain places. Like in front of Woody's, where someone was playing popular music like Icona Pop's "I Love It." People were singing and dancing.
There were some giveaways but nothing as cool as Thursday.
The temperature was just above 60°, shirts stayed on.

I love my city, but I guess I'm an ordinary suburban gay at heart. Today's party was probably more intended for someone like me, but I think I had more fun at Haddon Township Pride.
