It's mostly genetic.

All that crap you're slathering on your skin is doing nothing more than making cosmetics companies rich. Seriously.

If you want to moisturize your skin do it from the inside out. Drink water.

And 50 year olds who want to look in their 20s don't look young, they look ridiculous.

Enjoy your 20s, enjoy your youth, so when you're 50 and you look in the mirror and see a 50 year old you'll think, "Well I couldn't have done all that stuff, gone where I've gone, and be where I am and be younger than 50 so I'm good with that."

I couldn't have said it better.

use your sunscreen everyday and moisturize. If you seriously want to get into anti-aging look into mild retinols to use around your eyes and face. Use them nightly 4-5 times a week. Retinols are great for keeping your skin firm and evenly toned. Wrinkles, aging skin, and dark spots on your skin can be easily prevented this way. You can also do peels using glycolic acids or lactic acids or actually buy the lotions that have acids in them to help combat aging.

Hair is kind of uncontrollable... it falls out / goes grey eventually. Physique is all about what you eat and your work out training. Both of these depends more on genetics.

But trust me about what i said about sunscreen. EVERYONE should wear it, not just to prevent skin damage but to prevent cancers.

whoever said to moisturize from the inside out by drinking water: yea, your wrong, it does not work that way. It may only help minimally. if you buy the right moisturizers they actually will help your skin. And please dont try to tell me that sunscreens dont work either; once again, you need the right one.

I'm 47 years old, though I'm frequently taken to be 27 or younger. Bartenders still regularly ask me for ID. In my case, it's probably due to a combination of genetics, taking decent care of myself, not burning the candle at both ends, and a medical problem (trust me, it's not something you would ever want).

As others have pointed out, sunscreens, diet, exercise, adequate water intake and enough sleep can all go a long way towards maintaining one's appearance. They can't solve every problem, but they do help A LOT.

Most of the anti-aging skin creams are over-priced and they under-deliver. The one exception to that is, in my opinion, Cellex C. A supplement that you can purchase OTC, pregnenolone, has the interesting effect of tightening one's skin for a few days. Please note that even though this doesn't require a prescription, it is a steriod and, as such, there are risks to using it, even in small amounts (e.g, 5mg).

Having said all that, looking twenty at age 50 is probably just a little too much hope to for, with or without some type of cosmetic surgery.

I thought the same thing. A few months ago, I got talked into buying some products from Aveda, cleanser and moisterizing lotion. I'd never used anything like it, and I must say I do see a difference. It does work well, although...yes, it's a bit pricey.

I don't think about age all that much. A few people have told me I don't look 42, but I don't know about that. Age is just a number anyway, you are only as young as your attitude.

:-)

Drink lots of water, get lots of sleep, and stay out of the sun... those are the keys to ageing gracefully. Staying away from cigarettes, excess alcohol, and uppers doesn't even need to be mentioned, it's so obvious (cigarette smoke cures your skin like a ham, alcohol dries it out and destroys the little capillaries that keep it healthy and fresh, and uppers such as cocaine, speed, or crystal meth will speed up your metabolism which will, in turn, speed up the ageing process).

However, moisturizers certainly don't hurt. I love eye cream, myself... there's something about putting it on, dabbing little dots of it around my eyes and patting them in, that makes me feel better. I like to wash and moisturize my face and hands before I go to bed, and again before I get dressed, it makes me feel more finished.

I recommend getting something organic, herbal, all-natural, etc. Since you're still young, you're not doing repair work, you're doing maintenance; and for that, you want to stick to nature's bounties rather than resorting to anything chemical. I just got some Burt's Bees Radiance Eye Cream with Royal Jelly that I just love, it feels good going on, it smells wonderful, and it softens and plumps up the skin around my eyes so that the little lines only show in strong light.

Anything with Royal Jelly will keep the skin nourished and plumped up; not only is it loaded with absorbable proteins and vitamins, it's also packed with estrogen... which as anyone knows, will soften and thicken your skin and hair (you'll notice that women tend to wrinkle less quickly than men, and it's not because they wear more makeup).

But you cannot stay young forever, so don't try. Ageing gracefully isn't about looking your age, it's about looking ageless. A forty-year-old in twenty-year-old's clothing looks silly, mutton dressed as lamb, and doesn't fool anyone. By all means keep your face and body as youthful as possible, but don't try to pass for some unrealistically distant age... or else you'll end up looking like this guy (the CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, who frankly scares the hell out of me).

So moisturize all you want and keep your face as smooth as a baby's ass, but act and dress age-appropriately. Also, don't try for zero body-fat... it's the fat that keeps your face smooth, you know.

I eat babies.

I couldn't agree more. You're going to look old eventually no matter what you do. Unless you eat babies or sell your soul;) .

I love this quote:

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather, to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand - chocolate covered strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOOHOO - What a Ride!'

Consider FEELING like you are in your 20's, as opposed to "looking" like you are in your 20's when you are 50. Keep your mind young, avoid looking @ aging as a bad thing.

Im 50, have the energy of 35 & sex drive of 25[love sex multiple times daily if my BF will put out, lol]. I eat healthy [no saturated fats, minimal sugars & processed foods]
weight train & walk/cycle daily. Talking with God/Nature keeps me balanced too.

Love to live, live to love(*8*)

I'm 46 ... always mistaken for mid-30's ... sometimes the even younger decade! Ahem, don't ever go out in the sun.

All those years as a night owl must have paid off.

cigarettes!!! how the hell could i forget!?

Cigarettes age you a lot!! like, twice as fast. I have had women who look 40 and are only 28 or so and men who look 50-60 and are in their late 30s, who are heavy smokers, admit to me that smoking made their bodies age faster. Stop smoking if you smoke right now.

Very true.

Live a good life. Take good care of yourself in absolutely every respect.

But never ever allow yourself to be trying desperately.

Success in every field of your life must appear to come 'naturally'. If you are trying far too hard, everyone will soon start believing that something is really wrong with you... You don't want that, do you?
