President bows to Saudi King?????

Yeah, it's true he was on the verge on freaking out when a girl asked him for a kiss during the visit to Strasbourg: he even tried to put Michelle as an excuse to not give the kiss he finally gave :cool:

I'm guessing that's the only reason he or anyone is interested in the Saudis at all.

If Obama felt he had to bow to King Abdullah as a gesture of respect,(no choice,the oil thingie,major financial investments and all)....I have great trepidation what he may feel compelled to resort to when first meeting the Chinese premier?:eek:Michelle will understand,I'm sure though....it would be the foreign policy equivalent to porn's "gay for pay".

obama is a very tall guy. The photo showed he bowed to below the king's chest.
Just a very clumsy bow or obama was kissing his hand ?
 
Thanks fellow JUBBERS, some very, very good observations and things to ponder....

I just think President Obama's "handlers" would get him very, very aware of each and every country's customs (what to DO and what NOT to do)when they meet foreign leaders, wouldn't you???

.........and of course the NEW President of the U.S. is even being more analyzed on what he does/does NOT do according to protocol, etc and when he flubs up, the press jump on it with both feet......I feel some-what embarrassed for him and our country when he allows himself to be put in "sticky" situations and wish him an easier path to leadership....

It is just protocol people.

And after the US fucking up so royally for the last fifty years with the middle east, it might just be a good idea to show a bit of deference for once.

See if a different approach might work.

It would be proper to at least consider the protocol in the country you visit. The Saudi King should be just as quick to bow on his next visit to the United States however, because protocol does not change the fact they are equal heads of state.

I'm sure it was all carefully stage managed and that the reactions as demonstrated on here were predicted as well. Keeps him in the news, keeps the media talking and we are, after all, governed by the media. Unlike his encephalitic simpleton predecessor Obama is quite bright.

He did exactly as he was meant to. Do you really think that all of this isn't carefully orchestrated and rehearsed?

By showing this measure of respect through this polite but ultimately meaningless gesture, he probably won over more middle easterners than by any other words or actions. If this means that it keeps the world safer for everyone, where's the problem?

I feel a lot more comfortable about the prez showing this measure of respect to another head of state than seeing George Bush arm in arm with the Saudi royals.

I mean, don't you all get it? The mark of shame for the US isn't bowing to another leader. It was launching a war based on lies and ideology.

Nevermind that customs have different levels of importance depending on the culture. Nevermind that what is optional in countries like England can be seen as lack of respect in Saudi...And really, nevermind thats its a fucking 2-second greeting.

It may well be protocol to bow. But it certainly wasn't necessary to bow quite so enthusiastically! He just looked like a clumsy, submissive bedwetter.

Kinda makes me think that he's submissive in the bedroom too. Does 'Chelle slap him around the bedroom before mounting him with violent force? Hmmm there's a thought...
