The Democrat party is not Democratic and works against our democracy more often not. That is the whole purpose of choosing activist judges: to impose the liberal agenda without the democratic process.
The Dems resist all attempts to limit immigration and whenever the Republicans introduce legislation to limit it, the Dems block the legislation.

You are living in the past. This is not 1890. We do not have the frontier and millions of acres to be homesteaded.This is not even 1945 when our manufacturing did not face much foreign competition. We have millions of poor people and unemployed. We are struggling to provide health care. Our education system is overburdened. Crime is a huge problem and immigrants are a big part of the problem.
We are looking for ways to limit environmental damage, including emissions, garbage, pollution, urban sprawl. All these problems are adversely impacted by the continuing influx of millions of immigrants. There is no possibility of reducing our poverty without limiting immigration.
The Democrats will not even allow intelligent discussion of the impact of immigration, since they, insist upon demonizing anyone who raises the question. They accuse anyone who wishes to discuss the subject of racism, nativism etc.

Immigration is absolutely required for this country. Just the deficit in engineers over the next 25 years alone will require we bring immigrants into this country. APply that to every other field and you must immigrate substantial numbers to keep up.

As much as some folks desire to bemoan how horrible America is there are still tons of folks coming to this country who want to stay. And it isnt because of welfare or some other perceived free shit they are getting.

The problem for both sides is that the process is broken so how to you fairly award people who have played by the rules of our cantankerous immigration system and still allow those who went around to stay? The idea floated while GWB was in office to allow amnesty with a five year probation or penalty and associated fine to compensate for unpaid taxes would be ideal. However because it was not accomplished prior to GWB leaving office and since the republicans seem intent on preventing anything from being credited to Obama. Even things they normally support like say killing Osama Bin Laden will get flack from warhawks for entirely partisan reasons and no other.

Both sides do it too. Just like the Patriot act was a key bitch before Bush was out and is now still in full effect with very little complaint. How about the still open, still prisoner occupied GTMO? what about ramping up a war in Afghanistan? All of those are Republican ideas that were blasted by the left to get the office.

I think the major difference is the republican media machine is so well constructed we are all actually starting to believe they have prevented Obama from accomplishing anything. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Not to act all offended here, but as a potential immigrant, I find it hilarious that anyone would be against immigration given that outside of government, most of the highest positions in society - ESPECIALLY in science and arts - are taken by foreigners.

America is BASED on acceptance of immigrants and stealing of foreign brains. There are very few Americans even on this board who can't trace their ancestry back to another continent/country as early as two or three generations back.

I know that in Benvolio's mind "immigrant" means "dirty Mexican-looking uneducated bum who doesn't speak English and steals that coveted dish-washing job from all those unemployed middle class white Amur'cans who would otherwise jump for it", but that's... uh... horribly racist and kinda dumb.

Yeah he is definitely in the minority in that opinion.

I can also see how hateful laws like the ones in Arizona get momentum in a state where more people by percentage of the overall have an opportunity to be affected negatively by illegal immigrants.

I just don't get why everyone agrees it is impossible to move 11 million illegals but still argue as such. It makes no sense. Like listening to Keith Olberman or Rush Limbaugh

The republicans want immigration too. They are not against it. Very few actively are, and most of them live in Arizona lol. Oh and the crime rate has actually declined the last decade. but I guess that's just another fact that isn't convenient to your argument, Benvolio.

Republicans might actually get interested in doing something about the invasion byu illegals if the government put serious penalties on employers for hiring them.
Like, if you hire an illegal, you can't run for public office for ten years.

There's a good chance they would. One thing is that he knew how to talk to people without coming across as an elite Ivy-League know-it-all. He had more common sense than any of the current Republican batch.
His one problem would be that he wasn't as anti-gun as the liberals of today.
