Does your street or town have any local heroes ?

I'd have to say Sean Connery for Edinburgh.

Matt Frewer and Sandford Fleming used to live here. Fleming lived around the corner from where I live now and Frewer attended the same college that Prince Andrew attended. No heroes except for the soldiers who went to war and never came home.

Bob Hope, Dennis Kucinich, Henry Mancini, Paul Newman, Jesse Owens, Sam Shepard (the murderer), and Frank Yankovic, all from the Cleveland, Ohio area.

The township where I now live (Upper Darby, PA) claims actress/comedian Tina Fey and musician Todd Rundgren.
The township just west (Springfield), where I grew up, claims musician Tom Keifer of the band Cinderella and basketball great Geoff Petrie. Baseball manager-player Mike Scioscia, who has managed the Angels for years, went to Springfield schools but lived in adjacent Morton.

I LOVE Dennis Kucinich.....so sad when he dropped out of the race. He was my guy...

None, really. It's not like NO celebrities came from Denver (or even Colorado), but they're all from the second or third tier, where the name is insufficient, and you have to give more information.

Tim Allen. You know, that guy from Home Improvement? The voice of Buzz Lightyear?
Pam Grier. You know, that 70s blaxploitation actress?
Trey Parker & Matt Stone. You know, the South Park guys?
India.Arie? Sinbad? The Fray? John Kerry?

The weird thing is - Colorado doesn't seem to have much interest in claiming them. Not that we should be embarrassed by such things, but most Coloradans probably wouldn't even know that these folks were from Colorado...or care.

Martin Mull from the Roseanne show.

WWE wrestler Mike "the Miz" Mizanin too.

I live in Paris so it would be more difficult to choose one than to think of one.

Gavroche, maybe ?

Xavier Cugat was born here.
Salvador Dalí was born in a nearby town.

Wasn't Bob Hope born in England ?

Like oakpope, I have too many too choose from, but the most famous from my neighborhood would be Sonny Bono. Can't say it makes me feel proud really. As a teen I favored Bono's Pizza which I believe was owned by his uncle. I liked his sauce the best.

Yes, Bob Hope was born in England, but he lived some of his childhood in Cleveland and Cleveland claims him and named a bridge after him.

How could I have forgotten to mention Drew Carey?

Actually Drew Carey has talked about Parma on TV and Parma is a neighboring suburb to where I live.

Another person from Cleveland that I forgot was John D. Rockefeller. He was born in New York state and his family moved to Cleveland where he started his company. Later he moved to New York.

Of course none of these people were from my suburb which has about 15,000 people.

A lot of famous and semi-famous of one sort or another lived in or live in the neighborhood where I grew up. People would point out the houses where Shirley Temple or Joan Crawford lived, to name a few. (Movie stars came and went, so there were two Joan Crawford houses, both of them now gone.) Mark Harmon ("Sexiest Man Alive) grew up and still lives nearby--his parents' house is now gone. Michael Crichton wrote Jurassic Park not far away. Henry Mancini and Leonard Nemoy were in the zip code although not actually what we thought of as the neighborhood. Michelle Pfeifer used to be there. Lindsey Buckingham and Judd Apatow live there, and probably others I don't know about. Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood and Jill St. John, and Gwyneth Paltrow (Most Annoying Woman Alive) lived or live down the hill, again same zip code, but not actually the same neighborhood.

I almost forgot O.J. Simpson, whose house wasn't a mansion, just a nondescript cottage that had been badly added on to over the course of many years.

I now live in a much more modest neighborhood, although the neighborhood where Hugh Hefner, Judy Garland and Lana Turner once lived is about 5 minutes away when there's little traffic. One of Bernie Ecclestone's daughters has a house there, now on the market.

I forgot the most famous resident of all: Marilyn Monroe. Ewan McGregor now lives in the house next door.
