Not all priests take a vow of poverty. I have known some very wealthy ones who inherited millions.
I got into a discussion once with a young priest who mentioned that he was "curious" about sex with guys after he found out I was gay. He said he loved sex with females but the only sexual contact he had with guys was jacking off with fellow priest while watching porn in seminary.
I asked him if he intended to have sex with females and he said he did. I asked if he planned to have sex with guys and he said he hoped to. I asked about his vows of celibacy and chastity and he said "I don't agree with the churches views on sex". He said he had lots of other issues with the church and I couldn't help but wonder why he should bother being a priest.
It's my impression that the priesthood is just one big closet for gay men to hide in.
When our son was about 13, his Sunday School teacher told the boys in the class that masturbation was a sin. The teacher was a single college student. Does he really expect us to believe he never wanks?
I'm not a priest but as I understand it, to enter the priesthood, they take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Like all human beings, they may fail and violate those vows, which is considered a "sin". Since, by and large, Christian faith considers ANY sexual activity outside of marriage unacceptable, I would guess that masturbation is an unacceptable act.
However, my opinion is that religion, Christianity in particular, is all about control. To saddle people with guilt just because they have raging hormones, priest or not, seems ridiculous. Masturbation is a NORMAL human function, like eating, drinking and breathing.
....some people when extremely sexually frustrated may express this as overt sexual desire for children....
I'm no expert, but nothing I've ever seen suggests that sexual frustration causes pedophilia. Can you supply a couple of reputable supporting links?
Ironically, one of the characteristics of atheism is that it leads people to make things up.
