Can anyone recommend affordable pot and pan sets and/or knife sets? All of mine need to be thrown out. I am tired of my knives breaking & almost cutting me and my pots and pans having handles fall off while in use..

Stainless steel or nonstick?
How many pieces do you need?
Check out Macy's "Tools of the trade" brand. They sometimes have reduced specials on cookware sets as well as knife sets. Decent quality IMO.
If you establish a decent stainless steel set then you buy a few nonstick saute pans for omelettes and such. 8 inch and 10 inch nonstick is usually all you need.
If don't mind spending more look for all stainless steel split handles pans. They stay cooler and you can go from stovetop to a screaming hot oven without concern.

Looks like Amazon has some individual pieces that are pretty well rated.
Another brand of knives where you can buy individual pieces is Dexter Russell. They were used in restaurants quite a bit in the 90s.

Doesn't matter what it is made of. And I really only need a couple pots and a couple pans. For the most part it is just me and I don't cook all that often.

We use the pro-grade All-Clad copper and stainless for most of our regular cooking.
Cast iron skillets and griddles. And some lined copper skillets. And le Cruset for Dutch ovens and other skillets.
And these will last us a lifetime.
But honest to Pete. You probably don't need to spend a lot of money on these if you are just cooking for yourself. Some of our other favourites we use for soups etc. are not really expensive. Our collection over 40 years has really been geared to the big meals we prepare for parties.
As far as knives go, we have Henkels and a few Japanese knives. And we just get them re-sharpened as they need it.
Again though, if you are cooking mostly for yourself, just get a really good paring knife, a serrated knife and good chopping knife. They will do the work.
