Probably a Stupid Question

Online, bars, social groups, depending on what you want. I would put my money on social groups, because they're a low-pressure way of meeting guys. There's no real sexually charged atmosphere to speak of and you know you have something in common, which is excellent for shy guys. I know Sydney, Melbourne and Perth* have a lot of gay social groups geared towards pretty much any interest imaginable. :)

There can be stupid answers, but there are no stupid questions. People tend to recommend what worked for them and avoid recommending what turned out negative. The social organizations are probably the most genteel, and I recommend them because you are dealing with the whole person, not just an online impression.

Welcome to JUB.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!
i've never really been Gay clubbing & i wouldn't have a clue where to find a social group :S
most of my experience is with online which has not worked out for me...

You can start by volunteering at your local gay & lesbian organization. Network with people...make new friends.

Good luck!

Not a stupid question at all! You are always welcome to post any questions you have. We are here to listen and help you. :)

Can you give us some more details about your life? Do you live in a populated, gay friendly city? Do you currently go to a university? You mentioned you've had some online experiences, but what other experiences have you had in general? Have you been in a relationship before? Are you looking for gays to date or just more gay friends in general?

Answers to those questions help us to gain a better understanding of your circumstances so that we can offer you more tailored advice. :)

I wouldn't recommend going clubbing alone unless you're very outgoing (which your username suggests you aren't). I'd focus on finding friends first, via aforementioned social groups. And that's where the internet comes to the rescue! There's bound to be websites about what's available in your town/city. If not, you could always quickly pop into a gay bar. They usually have the local gay magazine available for you to take home and browse (pro tip: they're often near the door on a sill or a stand). I've travelled around Oz and found that the gay mags were a good way of quickly seeing what was going on in the city. :)

And if you need a little help: where do you live exactly? :)

Does anyone know of any gay social groups in Brisbane? Specifically the city/northern suburbs area?

I don't live in a hugely populated gay area but i'm about an hour away from sydney and there is one there, not currently at uni i work full time so that takes up a heap of my time, i have never had a real relationship before all of my experience have been one night stands or physical stuff that never went anywhere, i would love to have a few gay friends but would most definitely want a BF :)
