Technically a professional athlete coming out is redundant, tbh anybody who's into spending that much time with men after the age of 14 dings on my gaydar. can somebody drive this tea through Long Island? plznthnx. Girl can anybody actually name a legitimate bonafied heterosexual sports superstar that only sleeps with women specifically? Jake Daniels

The Blackpool forward Jake Daniels has ended decades of silence within men’s football to become the first player in the UK to come out as gay since Justin Fashanu in 1990.

Daniels made his senior debut for the club only this month, but the 17-year-old says he is ready to act as a role model for others in the game after deciding “the time is right to be myself, be free and be confident” in his identity.

Aren't we even allowed to put his name in here? ... It really is extraordinary that he made front page news on all the UK newspapers, was featured in various TV news bulletins, was congratulated by all and sundry on Twitter, including by Prince William and the British Prime Minister. Yet JUB evidently censors not only his name but a screen shot from one of the UK newspapers in which his photo appears. The mind boggles!

OK ... I won't post his name but will suggest that you simply google "UK championship footballer just out as gay" and click "Images" underneath. You'll then get all the pics you want. As it happens, he looks and talks older than 17 and indeed one TV pundit said he could easily pass for 23. Another reason he came out was to encourage other footballers to do the same. A few are known to be out there, or so it is whispered, so we'll wait and see ... :)

It's a matter of context as to which forum it fits into. Since he's in the news for being an openly gay futbol player, it makes sense to have the thread in Hot Topics.

It's also confusing because there's a porn performer named Jake Daniels, too.

One thing that limits a Celeb thread is his age. In Celebs, there's always a lot of members looking for pictures of a celebrity (and sports figures are considered celebs in that forum). Unbelievably, he's only 17 years old, so he's still too young for pictures on JUB.

He will turn 18 on January 8, 2023 and based upon the media pictures that I've seen, I expect he will have a Celebs thread in the future. ;)
 
Hopefully he will inspire other young athletes to be able to be open about who they are.

But I am never super-optimistic when it comes to Football, because until a major Premier League star is out and the homophobic hooliganism stops....it will remain a largely closeted sport.
