This story serves no better purpose than those idiotic 'it gets better' bragfests.
It might be a wonderful story if this fellow was out all along, but he wasn't.
It's a perfect example of why teens need to stay in the closet until they are financially self-sufficient/independent with plenty of emergency/fallback cash.
It does nothing for the average/lesser looking, non heroic, non athletic teen who has to depend on others for their survival.
This story drives home the sad truth that if one desires to climb the ladder, one most often must do so under the protection of dishonesty -- closeted.
