Professional gamblers in jubland

Prefessional gambler; isn't that just another name for a stock broker?

For about a year, I counted cards at blackjack for a living. It was my only source of income at the time. Towards the end of the year, I started getting backed off from some blackjack tables and decided to pursue another career. So now I'm an actuary. I don't play blackjack much at all anymore, maybe once a year if that.

I can also say the life of a card counter is not glamorous, especially if it's your only source of income and you depend on it. I averaged a win rate of about $15/hour, which is less than I could have earned in a good job. Also, the game is volatile, meaning you can go days or weeks without winning. I had incredible winning sessions, but also nauseating losing sessions. It also becomes a grind after a few months. I became so bored with it all, a big part of the reason I decided to join the working world.

It was a neat experience, I don't regret it. I got to travel to some cool (and not so cool,) places, ate for free most of the time, met some interesting people.

Pubert's not a professional gambler at all, but he does well. We always leave "up" from Vegas, and he's paid for the trip more than once.

I can't gamble. I have a degree in statistical inference, and all I can see when I look at blackjack tables and slot machines is "I will lose X amount each time I play." :)

i generally gamble at all games in a casino - be it 8 hrs. of sitting at poker, to just hitting table games over and over. my problem is typical though, 70% of the time you win money and 90 % of the time by the end of the evening you have given it back + more. since i can't seem to stay off of wild tilt swings, i think it is time to just stop.
