Project Runway (season 8)

wow, andys design was amazing. thats the real reason i watch project runway... to watch insanely creative people start with crap and end up with art. there was truly no competition for the win here.

mondo sent down another kick-ass dress, as did april, who is becoming another favourite of mine. ivy shocked everybody by making something that wasnt complete crap. and then she fainted. only, according to tim gunns vlog, that happened during the last challenge, but whatever.

gretchen seemed so down-to-earth only two episodes ago, and now shes coming across as a total bitch. to be fair, it could be a combination of villain-editing and jealousy amongst the other designers. the 'leather'-jacket she made this time was truly great, even if i didnt care for the rest of her outfit. what i dont understand is why shes been treated as such a front-runner. i mean, shes talented, but shes not an obvious frontrunner the way some designers in the past were (leanne, korto, kara janx, kara saun, jay mccaroll, austin scarlet...)

i feel bad for sara because she seems like such a cool person, but her outfit was truly sad, and nothing she has sent down the runway so far was all that great. i guess one could argue that glitter-crotch should have gone home, but the truth is they both would have deserved it.

When they announced Andy as the winner you could just see Gretchen chomping at the bit to say "He never would have finished if he hadn't had help!" To her credit, she kept her mouth shut... for once.

Now I like Peach and April even more.

When I saw Andy's dress coming down the runway, I said aloud, "HE PULLED IT OFF!" Amazing.

Really enjoying this season. There's more fun-drama than in many seasons.

Opinions of first 3 episodes:

Jason and Casanova are assholes. They should have both gone home on challenge 1. The guy who went home in challenge 2 (Nicholas?) deserved to go because he thought his design was really good. I didn't understand all the concepts that challenge, like the infinity sign or the perfect circle that turned into a cape. It didn't make sense to me.

I'm pretty annoyed that Sara(h?) went home this week. I actually kind of liked her design, it looked like an exoskeleton, but I agree she could have taken it further. But Casanova's was... ugh. Dead dog and ruffles and tableclothes and ughhh. One of the judges said something about Sarah at least knowing her design was bad, and I totally agree with that. Casanova is going to keep sending out these clueless designs and won't learn and will keep playing the language barrier card and will probably keep getting through. Sarah would have brought out something interesting.

I don't like Gretchen's designs at all. The first week I hated the weird sparkly shoulder things, and I thought the whole design was bland, the second week I thought it was okay, but Mondo and Valerie were much better, and this week I didn't like it at all. The jacket was okay, but since when was metallic fringing fashionable? My mistake, metallic fringing HAND CUT INTO CHEVRONS. I don't think she's anywhere near the top, I don't understand why she's getting so much attention from the judges.

I don't mind Peach, but I think she's probably going to be out pretty soon. Hopefully Casanova leaves first though.

I don't understand the judges' love for Gretchen's designs. I think they are dull and this week's was horrible. Now she's acting like a twat.

Glad Andy's cool black dress won.

I agree Elegant. I thought Gretchen was great in the beginning and then she won a few times and she became unlikeable very quickly. I also agree with you about Casanova, but I guess maybe they see some potential in him. I'm not sure.

Wow! Just wow!

I thought Christopher's outfit was stunning. It had a 40s noir sensibility which suited the hat perfectly.

I also liked the red dress/white bolero jacket outfit.

The winning dress seemed very bland to me.

And, why oh why, wasn't diaper girl sent packing? The zipper in the back of the panties alone should have put her at the bottom. (Pun intended.)

I'm glad Michael C. won because it pissed everyone else off!

I think what saved Diaper Girl was the cool top she made.

That chatterbox Ivy gets on my nerves. She sounds like a chipmunk valley girl.

I think Chris gets more credit than he deserves b/c he's cute. That fabric looked like curtains from a funeral home.

Christopher is cute, but he's not really my type (too young) and I thought his dress rocked. I wasn't thrilled that Michael C. won, but I can understand why he was totally overjoyed. I think Apri's top is what saved her as well.

that was some of the weirdest judging I have seen.....ever on the show
Michael C did not deserve to win imo? he just kind of plopped out a dress without a vision.
his hat reminded me of a lobster so it would have been interesting if he made a dress that looked like a beautiful seashell or sand or w/e (but that could just be my love for the Mcqueen dress talking)

Christopher's dress was cute above the belt, everything after that point including the belt looked heavy and awkward. maybe if he kept the top transformed it into a jacket and made a sleek jumpsuit ala Gretchen in challenge 2 it might have worked imo.

but I'm suprised Aj wasn't in the top. His dress worked well with the hat and was so different than his usual nyc club kids design

and valerie dress although cute did not have anything to do with the challenge, it didn't have any cohesiveness w/ the hat as stated by phillip tracy.

and I hope April goes home soon, I don't find the cut of the shoulders of the top flattering and it reminded me of her ''brilliantly'' turned inside out jacket in episode 1 and those diapers....

Has anyone else noticed that HOT HOT HOT daddy working in the make-up room? They really need to give him more camera time.

You could be right Philly. The judging is a little odd this season.

Do you guys like the longer episodes this season?

I think it's an improvement to the show for the most part and might be necessary because of the large cast this season.

what a fab challenge, with generally good results. but yeah, the judging was way off. if they are trying to generate more buzz this way, it may work on short term, but its really gonna damage the shows integrity long term. please stop it.

outfits both in top (valerie, michael c.) and bottom (christopher) were pure middle-of-the-pack.

christopher sure fills out that wifebeater nicely, doesnt he?

michael d. shoulda won. hes generally really growing on me. with the exception of the party-store challenge, he has done nothing but good work. hes becoming one of my favs. i also really dig his personal style. i loved both the wifebeater-overall combo and the post-apocalyptic sweater he was wearing.

im loving mondo more and more. of all the designers, i want to see a whole collection by him most.

april is another of my favs. guys, stop hating on her! judges, stop kicking her around! granted, her diaper was an atrocity and she deserved her place in the bottom because of it. but that vest was one of the best things on the runway. they really could have pointed that out instead of meekly mumbling 'the vest is not bad'. her party-store dress could have been in the top, her billboard dress was flawed but interesting. i want to see her collection. april ftw!

ivy: "i need to get over myself." yes honey you do. her outfit was boring, but more importantly, had absolutely nothing to do with the hat she chose. again, shoulda been in the bottom.

the constant gretchen hype is getting on my nerves as well, but i have to admit, her outfit this ep deserved a spot in the top more than anything shes done so far. i really liked it. but what happened to her face? did she let a drag-queen put on her make-up?

positively surprised by aj's polkadot dress. very nice.

kirsten:
"who wouldnt get turned on by a vagina?"
*looks at a room full of queens*
"nevermind."

like sarah and nicholas, kirsten is very likable, but her dress was the worst and she hasnt sent anything impressive down the runway so far. for all the crack judging, the aufing felt fair.

I hope Casanova keeps making the cut because he's the funniest thing this season, but his clothes are pretty horrible.

I'd love it if Mondo wins or at least makes it to the top three.

well, it was the first time that casanova made something that didnt completely suck. safe for the next round seemed about right. but his dress was a little plain and more than a little dated... i think he has absolutely no clue what is considered stylish and fresh. everything hes done is either tacky, or matronly, or dated, or just crack-smoking-crazy...

as you can probably tell, casanova is so not my type, so im immune to his charms. still, im glad hes around... his clueless interactions are hilarious!
